POSITION: Student Success/Alumni/Veterans' Enrollment (SSAVE) Coordinator
CLASSIFICATION: Regular, Full-Time
DEPARTMENT: Student Services FLSA STATUS: Exempt

LOCATION: New Town, ND Campus CLOSING DATE: Until Filled

Nueta Hidatsa Sahnish College (NHSC) is committed to providing quality cultural, academic and vocational education and services to the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation; and our staff members strive to maintain high standards of honesty, integrity, impartiality, professional courtesy and consideration for each other, our students and our community.

Purpose: Advise students who are Veterans, conduct advisor training for faculty and staff, manage Veterans' Affairs, and assist the Vice President of Student Services in administration of the Student Enrollment Plan (STEP), promoting student success from recruitment through graduation, collecting and analyzing the corresponding data for strategic planning. Serve as the coordinator and key follow-up for graduates and leadership of the NHSC Alumni Association.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proven qualifications of leadership, accuracy, initiative, organization, and strategic planning.

  • Computer literate; basic mathematics skills; excellent interpersonal skills; and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work within deadlines and under pressure; ability to work independently; ability to learn and to follow policies/procedures regarding admissions requirements, residency, accreditation, and state reports.

  • Ability to collaborate with departments across campus to enhance and streamline the admissions, registration and graduation process.

Job Duties:
Student Success Advisor

  • Reviews student records to inform advising for academic progress, course recommendations, career planning, and resource referrals.

  • Assists the Vice President of Student Services in overseeing the Student Enrollment Plan (Step) by collaborating with teams across campus, regarding Recruitment, Onboarding, Persistence, Retention and Completion to develop and implement special programming and resources to meet unique cohort needs for First Time First Year students and collecting and analyzing the corresponding data for strategic planning.

  • Oversees the Student Success Center to include the supervision of any assigned employees and student workers in the implementation of tutoring and supportive services for students

  • Meets with and provides support to at-risk students.

  • Participates in New Student Orientation, committees and task forces as assigned.

  • Helps plan and implement Summer Bridge and First Year First Time programs.

  • Facilitates student use of campus and community support services and resources.

  • Utilizes technology and various early alert systems to monitor student progress and make appropriate recommendations.

  • Maintain communications with assigned advisees and teammates.

  • Helps train staff and faculty in "best practices" for face-to-face and online advising.

  • Identify internal and external training programs to address competency gaps.

  • Provide advisor support regarding persistence and completion.

  • Develop training aids such as manuals and handbooks

  • Assist in the graduation processes.

Veterans' Benefits Coordinator:

  • Manages the implementation, critical and direct oversight, and regulatory processes for Veterans Affairs benefits.

  • Maximizes recruiting and admissions for Veterans processing by using state-of-the-art recruiting and Jenzabar Admissions module.

  • Plans, implements, and participates in Veterans' Fairs that showcase supports for veterans

  • Provides academic and career advising to students with a focus on Veterans.

  • Provides leadership for Veterans Affairs via committee participation, communications with external stakeholders, and contributions to the strategic planning and evaluation processes.

  • Writes and implements policies and procedures on behalf of Veterans that complies with federal and state funding.

  • Manages Veterans Affairs program funds according to required federal and state statutes and regulations. Establish strategies for the effective delivery of program aid awards to students to support institutional retention and recruitment goals.

  • Assists Veterans with completing applications for financial aid (grants, scholarships, FAFSA, etc.).

  • Monitors fund balances, disbursements, adjustments, Return to Title IV calculations and year-end closeout procedures.

  • Serves as the primary Veterans Affairs policy and implementation liaison between the Financial Aid/Veteran Affairs Office and applicable federal, state and local entities.

  • Coordinates and oversees the Student Veterans Association, which participates in graduation ceremonies and other events as flag bearers.

  • Complies with all NHSC policies and procedures.

  • Assists the Vice President of Student Services in performing all other duties, as needed and as assigned to support the NHSC Mission and Vision.

  • Other duties as assigned

Alumni Coordinator:

  • Creates and maintains an NHSC Alumni Association

  • Promotes communication between alumni and the College

  • Plans and executes programs that foster good will and positive public relations for the College with alumni, students, and the general public

  • Manages a database of alumni contact information

  • Plans and executes events and programs focused on alumni communication

  • Promotes events that encourage alumni involvement including preparing promotional materials.

  • Identifies and trains alumni volunteers and leaders.

  • Prepares, edits and disseminates regular correspondence to alumni.

  • Assists in preparing budgets and annual reports in support of the Student Services Department

Other Duties:

  • Comply with all NHSC policies and procedures.

  • Assist the Vice President of Student Services in performing all other duties, as needed and as assigned to support the NHSC Mission and Vision.

Minimum and Preferred Experience
Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Advising, Education, Human Services, Counseling, Communications, Higher Education, or a related field.

Preferred: MA or Ph.D. degree in Advising, Education, Human Services, Counseling, Communications, Higher Education, or a related field.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
Physical Demands: While performing the functions of this position, the employee is required to speak, hear, and see, including close vision at a computer terminal. The employee is often required to stand and set up the college recruitment booth and other event materials.

Work Environment: The functions of the position are performed in an office environment and in public settings. The position requires the employee to speak to individuals, as well as, groups and to periodically work outdoors. The position requires significant travel within and in close proximity to Fort Berthold. Evening and weekend work are required, at times.
