Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design invites applications for the position of Head of Art History. Responsibilities include a reduced teaching load conducted over 8-week terms in both the online and campus modalities and active participation in college service. The Head of Art History supports the college’s mission, value statements, and a student-centered paradigm. Reporting to the Chair of Liberal Arts, the Head provides oversight to curriculum development, assessment, and instruction. Additionally, the Head is responsible for hiring and scheduling for the Art History department.
The curriculum in art history serves RMCAD’s BFA degrees in Animation, Art Education, Fashion Design, Fine Arts, Game Art, Graphic Design, Illustration, Interior Design, and Photography. RMCAD requires a minimum of 15 credit hours or five courses in Art History for every BFA degree program. Courses include: Art History I – Ancient to Medieval, Art History II – Renaissance to Post-Impressionism, Art History III: Fauvism through Modern, Seminar on Contemporary Art, Topics in the History of Western Art, Topics in the History of Western Art, major-specific Art History surveys, and special topics. RMCAD has a comprehensive and strong curriculum in both the Foundations Department as well as the Liberal Arts Department, which houses the Art History Division.
RMCAD is committed to promoting academic excellence through rigorous and engaged pedagogical practices. Through our own professional development, as academics and educators, the Liberal Arts department provides the necessary skills for artists to develop as professionals, engaged citizens, and actualized human beings prepared to flourish in a complex global world. Students in Liberal Arts engage in a variety of academic disciplines that emphasize the skills necessary for informed, meaningful, and effective writing and the capacity to think critically about their lives, their work, and the larger world.
MA in art history or a related field
Must reside in the greater Denver area or be willing to relocate
Ph.D. in art history or a related field
University-level teaching experience
University-level online teaching experience
Evidence of exemplary student engagement and advanced pedagogical strategies
Leadership experience or evidence of high-level university service
Background in modern and contemporary art preferred; however, candidates of all specializations in art history are encouraged to apply
