Responsibilities*

This position will offer a flexible work schedule by offering both in-person and remote opportunities.

This position will split their time between two collaborators within the Department of Surgery.

The ideal candidate will organize, prioritize, and complete tasks in a timely manner and handle confidential data with discretion.  The position requires exceptional verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and organizational skills including attention to detail. The ability to work independently as well as part of a team and regularly exercise judgment in the application of policies, procedures, and methods is imperative. Must possess the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Positive attitude and customer service orientation is a must.

Specifically, the position involves:

  • Gathering, analyzing, and interpreting a wide variety of qualitative data including interviews and surveys. Analyses of collected information according to established qualitative methods.
  • Engage with faculty to monitor the integrity of data collection and the accurate use of protocols and procedures.
  • Assist faculty with grant proposals.
  • Project coordination (tracking progress, coordinating resources, etc.)
  • Database development and data management and monitoring responsibilities.
  • Conduct literature search and retrieval, and summary of published work.
  • Prepare charts, tables and other visual aids as needed.
  • Participating in the writing of scientific publications, abstracts, and other reports. May include presentation at regional and national conferences.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelors degree and 5-8 years of work experience in a related field
  • Knowledge of research principles and practices
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as cooperatively
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Demonstrated proficiency working with qualitative software
  • Experience utilizing advanced qualitative methodology
  • Institutional Review Board (IRB) application experience

Desired Qualifications*

  • Masters degree in anthropology, sociology or related field
  • 8+ years of work experience in qualitative research
  • Experience working in health or health science research
  • Demonstrated experience with evaluation or Implementation Science Frameworks a plus
  • Experience with additional qualitative software (e.g., MAXQDA, NVivo)
  • Experience in providing mentorship to junior analysts

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
