 Job Description

Job Title:  Vice President of Academic Services

Reports to: President

Group: Administrative

SUMMARY As the Chief Academic Officer, this individual is responsible for all matters relating to instruction.  Additionally, the individual coordinates the accreditation process, is designated as the institutional economic development liaison, Perkins Coordinator, oversees assessment and liaison with state agencies, associations, other higher educational institutions, K-12 school districts, and others related to instruction.  It is important that there is recognition, acceptance, and adherence to the community college mission and philosophy from our candidate. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive. Some incumbents may not perform all the duties listed while in other cases related duties may also be assigned. Supervises faculty and instruction-related administrative personnel, which includes the assignment of instructional loads, scheduling, recruitment, retention, hiring, reassignment, promotion, evaluation, training, contract administration, negotiations, and discipline.

Directs the delivery, evaluation, revision and development of curricula. Coordinates the functions of the Curriculum Committee.

Directs the administration of the college budget and facilities related to instruction.

Coordinates the college’s accreditation process to comply with the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and quality initiatives. 

Develops, directs and monitors instructional related grant projects.

Serves as the college liaison for local and regional economic development efforts.

Plans, organizes and administers the educational programs of the college.

Makes recommendations to the President for all new personnel assignments within the educational division of the college.

Coordinates the assignment of facilities and equipment for instructional use.

Makes final determination of schedules and assignments of faculty for all credit and non-credit courses at both on-campus and off-campus locations.

Supervises Off-Campus Instruction.

Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required

to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities.

Knowledge of:

Principles and practices of Academic Services.

Community college programs and services.

Community college administration, funding and budgeting.

Employee and labor relations.

Strategic planning with a record of achieving institutional goals.

Increasing enrollment strategies and student success initiatives.

Grant development, evaluation and administration.

Instructional technology.

Ability to:

Provide leadership in instructional administration.

Improve the quality of academic programs.

Work effectively and form partnerships within a wide range of college related factions and interests.

Promote innovation.

Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Operate a PC and related software.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge, skill and abilities. A typical way to obtain these would be:

Master’s in Education or related field. Doctorate preferred.  A combination of seven years’ experience in community college administration, instructional coordination, or teaching.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit.  The employee frequently is required to use hands to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in indoor conditions and regularly works near video display. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
