Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in field. Texas State Athletic Training Licensure. Familiarity with NJCAA, NAIA or NCAA governing rules.

Essential Duties

Provide athletic training services for the College’s athletic department, including attendance at scheduled team practices and home and away competitions as necessary. Develop overall sports medicine program for the College, including: injury prevention programs, injury evaluations, injury management (referral), injury treatment and rehabilitation, educational programs and counseling for student athletes. Coordinate and schedule physical examinations and medical referrals for student athletes to determine their ability to practice and compete. Work with physicians and other allied health professionals to deliver care to student athletes. Work in conjunction with the coaching staff to ensure safety in the design and implementation of fitness, nutrition and conditioning programs to meet student athlete needs. Schedule and coordinate coverage for all team practices and athletic competitions. Assist the Athletic Director in the development of the Athletic Training budget. Evaluate and recommend new techniques and equipment that would enhance the benefit of the Athletic Training program and remain compliant to continuing education requirements set by the Board of Certification and Texas Department of Health. Record-keeping and documentation on each student athlete to include physicals, injury reports, treatment reports, insurance, and physician notes.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

The incumbent will:
Develop overall sports medicine program for the College, including: injury prevention programs, injury evaluations, injury management (referral), injury treatment and rehabilitation, educational programs and counseling for student-athletes.
Provide athletic training services for the College’s athletic department, including attendance at scheduled team practices and home and away competitions as necessary.
Coordinate and schedule physical examinations and medical referrals for student-athletes to determine their ability to practice and compete.
Work with physicians and other allied health professionals to deliver care to student athletes.
Responsible for the formation of the College athletic training staff, including recruiting, training and supervision of student athletic trainers.
Work in conjunction with the coaching staff to ensure safety in the design and implementation of fitness, nutrition and conditioning programs to meet student-athlete needs.
Schedule and coordinate students for coverage of all team practices and athletic competitions.
Assist the Athletic Director and the Business Manager in the development of the Athletic Training program budget.
Evaluate and recommend new techniques and equipment that would enhance the benefit of the Athletic Training program and remain compliant to continuing education requirements set by the Board of Certification and Texas Department of Health.
Record-keeping and documentation on each student-athlete to include physicals, injury reports, treatment reports, insurance, and physician notes.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Prevention of athletic injuries and illnesses. Evaluation of athletic injuries. Treatment of athletic injuries. Providing counseling and education to student athletes. Athletic training administration duties. Assist with coordination and scheduling of medical coverage for home and away competitions. Work with doctors and other allied health professionals to deliver care to student athletes. Organizes and coordinates the inventory of athletic training equipment and supplies. Performs other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in field and two (2) years professional experience. Certified by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (BOC).

Physical Demands

Light physical activity is required with occasional lifting of objects up to 15 pounds.

Work Schedule

Variances from regular working hours may be necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
