General Function

The Occupational Extension Instructor - Greene County Correction Programs (Part-time) functions to provide instructional programs committed to quality teaching and successful student achievement in order to educate students desiring to develop new occupational and vocational skills.  Part-time instructors in this classification will be responsible for providing classroom instruction by utilizing a variety of training methodologies and techniques such as adult learning concepts, learning tools, and practices to ensure maximum effectiveness. The Occupational Extension Instructor - Greene County Correction Programs (Part-time) will also be required to administer tests, evaluate student performance, and maintain accurate documentation as required by state standards.

Qualifications

 

  • Associate degree from a regionally accredited institution is required; bachelor's degree preferred 
  • Ability to teach vocational and human resource development skills to a diverse student population with varying skill sets in a professional manner and conduct both personal and classroom assistance to add to student success 
  • Effective communication and customer service skills 
  • Proficient in technology to include use of a computer, online Learning Management System, Microsoft Office, and email

Working Conditions

  • Correctional institution 
  • Infrequently lifting and carrying items up to 15 lbs 
  • Infrequently bending and twisting at the waist 
  • Evening and weekend work hours 
  • Frequently sitting at a desk or workstation using a computer display, keyboard, mouse and telephone 
  • Infrequently traveling between buildings on campus, between campuses, and to off-campus sites

 

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

This position will educate offenders in a correctional institution. The Occupational Extension Instructor - Greene County Correction Programs (Part-time) are expected to prepare and submit instructional records, reports, grades, and other paperwork in a timely manner adhering to all deadlines with accuracy and detail. The duties of the he Occupational Extension Instructor - Greene County Correction Programs (Part-time) include, but are not limited to:
 
 Mastery of Subject Matter  

  • Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge of their field or discipline 
  • Display an ability to interpret and evaluate the theories of their field or discipline 
  • Connect their subject matter with related fields 
  • Stay current in their subject matter through professional development; through involvement in professional organizations; and attending professional meetings, conferences, or workshops 
  • Use technology to enhance teaching and the educational experience when appropriate

Teaching Performance  

  • Plan and organize instruction in ways that maximize student learning 
  • Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students 
  • Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student needs 
  • Employ available instructional technology when appropriate 
  • Encourage the development of communication skills and higher-order thinking skills through appropriate assignments 
  • Contribute to the selection and development of instructional materials in accordance with course objectives

Evaluation of Student Learning

  • Establish and follow meaningful learning objectives 
  • Develop and explain methods that fairly measure student progress toward course objectives 
  • Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently and return student work promptly to promote maximum learning 
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit final grade rosters to division administrator each semester according to established deadlines 
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to student needs and circumstances
