The El Camino Community College District is now accepting applications for anticipated part-time faculty positions in the following subject area for the Fall 2019 semester:
English as a Second Language
Faculty job responsibilities include the assessment of learning outcomes to improve teaching and learning in achieving El Camino College's mission of institutional effectiveness, quality educational programs, and vibrant student support services.
For a noncredit course in English as a Second Language (ESL) any of the following:
Bachelor's degree in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL), or Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)
Bachelor's degree in education, English, linguistics, applied linguistics, any foreign language, composition, bilingual/bicultural studies, reading, or speech; and a certificate in TESL, which may be completed concurrently during the first year of employment as a noncredit instructor
Bachelor's degree with any of the majors specified in subparagraph (2) above; and one year of experience teaching English as a second language in an accredited institution; and a certificate in TESL, which may be completed concurrently during the first two years of employment as a noncredit instructor;
Possession of a full-time, clear California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential authorizing instruction in ESL.

Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and of individuals with disabilities.
Previous college-level teaching experience.
Background in theories of second language acquisition, second language methodology, linguistics, and the teaching of reading and writing to ESL students.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Part-time teaching assignment(s) for the Fall semester, beginning August 24, 2019. Teaching assignments may include off-site locations. Offer and acceptance of employment is subject to verification of all information provided on the employment application, credential(s), transcripts, fingerprint results, and tuberculosis examination as required. Candidates selected for employment will be required to provide verification of work authorization in the form of a passport, valid driver's license, or other equivalent identification, and social security card.
Part-time faculty members are compensated on a semester basis according to the number of class hours assigned per semester. The rate is $51.95 per hour.
