Responsible for providing instruction and performing lab related activities for the HVAC
program. An HVAC Instructor develops curriculum, selects textbooks and materials, evaluates
student proficiency, manages lab and/or field work and clinical activities, and maintains
program standards. Works with Coordinator and Program Director on classroom related
issues to include inventory, equipment, purchase orders and daily operational tasks. The
percentage of time spent teaching and handling classroom administration tasks may shift
slightly depending on class scheduling during the term. This job requires flexible hours; days,
nights and possibly weekends.
Instruct, advise, guide and assist students to achieve job skills and social skills
necessary to become employed in the HVAC industry.
Integrate classroom and hands-on experience enabling students to demonstrate
Plan and organize instruction in ways which maximize student learning.
Modify instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse students’ needs.
Oversee day-to-day operation of the class.
Recruit and provide orientation for new students in the program.
Maintain class records; prepare and submit instructional records, reports, and grades
established by institutional policy.
Follow all safety and security procedures and notify the campus leadership of
Provide feedback to program supervisor regarding student progress and/or
comprehension of course content in classroom or in theory classes.
Ensures confidentiality of all student records and student information.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge and skill in subject specialty.
Motivate and encourage students to successfully complete their program.
Promote community awareness of program opportunities.
Perform other tasks as assigned which support the mission and initiatives of the
Specialized training and industry certifications in the HVAC Trade and applications
required; competence gained through work experience.
NCCER Certification preferred.
Four years of direct personal experience working trade as a Licensed HVAC contractor
Ability to demonstrate the use of technology in the classroom; must be able to use
the technology required for the assigned course.
Prior postsecondary related teaching experience of at least 1 year in subject matter is
highly preferred but not an absolute requirement.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Must work well with others in a team environment.
Should be familiar with and appreciate the mission of a community college.
Salary is according to current Workforce Development compensation plan.
