By providing opportunities in conjunction with local nonprofits we cultivate an environment to test our student’s interests and area of study while assisting them to realize they have the knowledge and skills to affect positive change in our community.
This position includes operating the SLCC Food Pantry, assisting in staffing the pantry, general assistance and maintenance of the pantry, unloading and organizing Utah Food Bank and Grocery Rescue deliveries, etc. Essential Responsibilities and Duties - Pantry operations: opening and closing the pantry, helping clients ‘shop’ for food, utilizing pantry database, stocking shelves, and other related activities.
- Receive deliveries and donations
- Adhere to and enforce proper food safety storage guidelines
- Adhere to and enforce Utah Food Bank guidelines
- Complete daily and weekly cleaning tasks in pantry areas
- Talk with students, faculty, and staff about resources in the community, as well as Thayne Center programs and volunteer opportunities.
- Other duties as assigned. Preferred Qualifications - Experience working in a food pantry or on food insecurity initiatives. Minimum Qualifications - Must work at least 4 hours and no more than 20 a week during the semester in a minimum of 2 hour blocks
- Must be enrolled in 6 credit hours per semester
- Must be comfortable talking with students, staff, and faculty.
- Must be able to earn award at the Taylorsville Redwood Campus and/or South City Campus
- Must be able to lift items weighing at least 30 lbs
- Must have basic computer skills.
- Attend all related Thayne Center orientations and trainings.
- Excellent oral communication.
- High level of customer service.

- Be able to learn about and promote the details of the Thayne Center programs and events.
