Columbia-Greene Community College is seeking a self-driven individual to join a community of dedicated professionals as the Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs. Reporting directly to the Dean of Academic Affairs, the Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs serves a vital role in managing the office of academic affairs. Under the Deans leadership, the Assistant Dean provides a broad range of professional services that ensure the effectiveness and continuity of the Colleges academic functions.

 

 

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  • Advise the Dean on all day-to-day academic operations.
  • Work with division chairs and academic advisors to develop and maintain the master class schedule.
  • Remain current in the field of academic administration and ensure that operations are continuously assessed to maximize efficiency, effectiveness, and student-centeredness.
  • Monitor changes to the Colleges curricula and academic policies to ensure that shared governance is maintained, all appropriate parties are informed, and relevant publications are up to date.
  • Assist faculty with the development and revision of degree and certificate programs, provide feedback on the preparation of necessary forms, submit official proposals, and respond to requests for feedback from SUNY and the New York State Education Department.
  • Coordinate the tenure review process, conduct instructional observations, monitor faculty eligibility for promotion and tenure, and ensure adherence to contractual timelines.
  • Coordinate the academic appeals process and meet with affected students to determine their eligibility for reinstatement or readmission.
  • Work with division chairs, faculty, and students to resolve academic issues, including but not limited to, grade grievances or matters involving academic integrity.
  • Review and approve honors and independent study contracts, monitor students' progress, and follow up with faculty to verify completion.
  • Review and approve credit for life experience applications and work with admissions, registration, and subject matter experts among the faculty to verify equivalencies.
  • Provide mentorship and orientation to new faculty and adjunct instructors, manage the faculty peer mentorship program, and update the Colleges Faculty Handbook as needed.
  • Monitor and provide support for faculty professional development opportunities.
  • Calculate full-time faculty overload and adjunct pay, process special payments as needed, and work with human resources and payroll to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Assist faculty with the assessment of the major process, work with division chairs to identify external reviewers, and ensure timelines are met.
  • Review and maintain articulation agreements and memoranda of understanding with other educational entities, such as BOCES, high schools, and four-year partners.
  • Lead the continuous review and updating of all academic content on the Colleges website and within the College Catalog to ensure consistency and accuracy.
  • In conjunction with the Dean, develop strategies for achieving the academic goals of the Colleges Strategic Plan and the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Plan.
  • Provide leadership to the Colleges technical and administrative staff within the academic divisions.
  • Represent the Dean on College committees or at other functions as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as required by the Dean.

 

 

Minimum Requirements

  • Masters Degree
  • Experience working for an institution of higher education, preferably in the community college setting

 

 

Salary and Benefit Information

Annual salary $80K.
