Position Description:
The Communication Coordinator is a full-time, 12-month position that provides oversight and organization of multiple aspects of JCC athletics communication. Evening and weekend work required.
Essential Functions:
Media Relations
- Day-to-Day promotion of department, staff, and student athletes, through any media source that affords attention to Jayhawk athletics.
- Generate and distribute press releases (i.e.: preseason, in-season, post-season, human interest stories, and special occasions), schedules, headshots, rosters, etc.
- Coordinate all social media posts on appropriate social media channels for maximum coverage of athletic events.
- Organize and execute seasonal media days for all sport teams.
- Coordinate athletic department website activity including PrestoSports.
- Coordinate all local, Region III, and NJCAA communication.
Operations and Promotions
- Game day administrator: Hire, train, and schedule game day official operators including clock operators, statisticians, scorekeepers, announcers, videographers, photographers, line judges, ball runners, etc.
- Plan and execute activities to generate fan engagement.
- Assist Athletics department with community service and engagement opportunities.
- Assist the Director and Assistant Athletic Director with operations for athletic special events (GBO, Nationals, HS events, athletic rentals).
- Travel with teams during regular season and post-season when applicable
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required: Bachelors degree in communication, journalism, sports management, English, or related field; one (1) year professional experience; excellent communication skills; proficiency in website management, social media, and statistics software.
Preferred: Masters degree in communication, journalism, sports management, English, or related field.
Additional Information:
Salary: $38,099-$45,418. Excellent benefits package, including medical and dental insurance, paid vacation and sick leave, and NYS retirement.
