Delaware County Community College, a competency-based institution, committed to diversity invites applications for a Vice President of Academic Affairs.

The Vice President of Academic Affairs (VPAA) is the Chief Academic Officer (CAO) for the College, and serves as a member of the President's Cabinet, reporting directly to the President.  The VPAA is a member of an innovative senior leadership team; provides visionary leadership and management to all academic units, and oversees the ongoing review of curriculum and assessment. The VPAA is expected to provide academic and administrative leadership to achieve the College’s mission and strategic goals by effectively ensuring the strategic planning, development, execution, and overall quality of the College’s academic programs and student services. Further, he/she is responsible for the development of effective collaborations with other organizational units across the College and within the broader community to foster greater engagement and increase student success.

Primary responsibilities include but not limited to: -


  • Serves as an educational leader, functioning as part of a visionary, innovative, and strategic senior leadership team
  • As a member of the Cabinet, works to insure the success of the President and the advancement of the President’s goals and initiatives.
  • In consultation with the College President, oversees the implementation of the College's vision and strategic priorities;
  • Articulates the short-term and long-term vision and strategic plan to guide the development of Academic Affairs at the College;
  • Advises the College President on relevant matters regarding academic and career education, including interpretation, legislation and development of appropriate policies, guidelines, and procedures;
  • In conjunction with the Vice President of Human Resources, certifies faculty qualifications in compliance with accrediting agencies;
  • Maintains compliance with the terms of contracts with faculty bargaining unit; participates in the negotiating process by assisting in the formation of negotiating strategy, formulating proposals and counterproposals, and advocating management’s position;
  • Ensures that the College offers a diverse, inclusive environment that celebrates and promotes understanding and respect within a diverse student body, staff and community; and
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the College President;


  • Serves as the Chief Academic Officer for the College;
  • Provides leadership in developing and implementing academic and instructional support strategies that foster greater student recruitment, retention, and completion;
  • Leads in the development of systems that ensure academic integrity and promote accountability, innovation, and excellence;
  • Leads in the development of academic curricula that meets the individual development needs and goals of students, as well as the current and projected employment needs of the community;
  • Leads the development, implementation, evaluation, and update of the College's Academic Master Plan;
  • Provides leadership for, and enforces compliance with academic development policies and procedures;
  • Oversees the development and execution of a system for assessment of academic programs, in conjunction with the College’s shared governance process, recommending policies and practices that promote an effective learning environment;
  • Fosters teaching excellence, academic rigor, encourages innovation and experimentation in pedagogy and course design and delivery;
  • Cultivates and expands workforce development training programs and tailored training for business and industry;
  • Coordinates, monitors, and supports the instructional development and delivery functions of the College to include on-line learning and other flexible delivery models;
  • Oversees the preparation of correspondence, reports, and proposals as required by federal, state, and local agencies;


  • Leads in the development of academic strategies to foster greater student engagement;
  • Collaborates with all areas of the College and the broader community to improve the enrollment, retention, and success of students;
  • Develops flexible programming that enables both full and part time students to achieve their educational goals;
  • Provides leadership to strengthen articulation and collaborative activities with other education institutions, including the K-12 system, higher education institutions, as well as public agencies, business, and industry;
  • Supports mutually beneficial partnership between the College and business/industry, not-for-profit organizations, and other educational institutions, in collaboration with other members of the College leadership;


  • Leads in a transparent budget development process for the Academic Affairs Division that is based on broad communication and clearly defined outcomes; ensures the effective management of all budgets within the Academic Affairs division;
  • Effectively links resource allocation to the overall planning process using data analytics
  • Collaborates in the development and oversight of grants that support programs and services linked to short and long term planning;
  • Works in coordination with information technology resources, including planning, development, implementation, and support;
  • Coordinates, develops, and implement strategies to maximize investments in technology to support faculty instructional needs and other college priorities;

The ideal candidate must have: -

  • Doctoral degree required;
  • Minimum of seven (7) to ten (10) years of teaching and academic administrative experience in a higher education environment with at least five (5) years at a senior academic administrative level;
  • Demonstrated academic leadership exemplified by the successful implementation of student success initiatives;
  • Demonstrated commitment to the principles of diversity in programs, administrators, faculty, staff and students;
  • Evidence of commitment to collaboration and transparency required;
  • Broad knowledge of the philosophy and mission of community colleges;
  • Knowledge of curriculum design and its application of methods for the evaluation of faculty and staff;
  • Strong preference for community college experience. Exposure to a multi-campus environment is strongly preferred, as well as demonstrated success working in a collaborative manner with faculty represented by a union.

Pennsylvania Act 153 Clearances
Applicants are required to either present to human resources current and valid PA Act 153 clearances or be able to obtain them expediently.
