Job Summary
Bowdoin College is seeking an Assistant Director of Annual Giving! This is an exciting opportunity for individuals interested in exploring a career in fundraising while being a part of an experienced team in a collaborative and positive environment.

The Assistant Director of Annual Giving, Student and Young Alumni Engagement manages volunteers in the two most recently graduated classes and all student class years. This position supports the senior class gift and engagement program, student philanthropy education, and is a key liaison between Student Affairs and Development and Alumni Relations. They help manage student workers and assist with designing and implementing philanthropy education events and activities during the academic year. The incumbent strives to further a culture of philanthropy and foster a deeper understanding of the importance of annual support both on campus and with recent graduates. The Assistant Director helps to establish goals and objectives; crafts and implements class-wide communications to engage, solicit, and steward; recruits, trains, and educates volunteers and student workers; provides ongoing volunteer support; and pilots and tests new engagement strategies. They are responsible for growing and maintaining participation in annual giving from students and recent alumni, utilizing innovative tactics and benchmarking across organizations to build a robust and successful program.

The salary range for this position is expected to be $55,000 – $65,000 annually.

Education/Skills Requirements
  • A Bachelors degree required
  • Must be a self-starter with strong written and verbal communication skills and well-developed computer, spreadsheet, word processing, and database skills.
  • Must possess a demonstrated capacity to develop, organize, and manage programs.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Willingness to travel;
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Must be comfortable working with diverse alumni populations and be comfortable soliciting, training, leading, and guiding alumni volunteers.
  • Must possess solid interpersonal skill.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment; and work well under pressure while handling multiple tasks and meeting deadlines.
  • Creativity and innovation are important skills in this work, and the Assistant Director should be comfortable in a fast-paced, results-driven environment.
  • A commitment to and respect for the contributions of volunteers is a must.
  • Previous experience working with students (residential life, student affairs, etc.) is a plus.
  • The incumbent should have the ability to work well with a diverse student population; understanding the various attitudes, challenges, and generational tendencies is a must.
  • Goal-oriented, have a positive attitude, and be a driven and energetic team player.

 


Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents
Required:
  • A minimum of two years of professional work experience is required.
  • The College is open to transferrable skills from other professions.

 

 
Preferred:
  • A background in volunteer management, customer service/sales, working with diverse populations, and/or fundraising/nonprofit work is preferred. .

Standard Work Days and Hours

 

  • This is an exempt position requiring the time necessary to satisfactorily complete job requirements.
  • Hours are primarily Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with frequent evening and/or weekend work.
  • Travel is required.
