Position Summary

The faculty member shall be responsible for the following: coordination of instructional programs and/or teaching assigned classes under the supervision of the area dean; helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content; assessing student learning outcomes; maintaining a thorough and up-to-date knowledge in his/her regular teaching field; continuing professional development; utilizing current technology in the performance of job duties; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position; assisting with articulation and curriculum development and review; serving on college committees and participating in faculty governance including accreditation and student co-curricular activities; assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the area dean; fulfilling other duties and responsibilities of a full-time faculty member as outlined in the college faculty handbook. Performing other duties as assigned.

As campus veterinarian, the director will have responsibility for the management of the animal colony at CRC. This includes but is not limited to:
  • Providing surgical services for the animals such as performing spays and neutering
  • Maintaining the health and well-being of the animal colony utilized in the program and for other animals on campus in accordance with State and National regulations.

Position Salary Information:
Initial maximum salary placement is based on academic degree, upper/graduate level units earned, and/or related professional occupational experience per the Los Rios College Federation of Teachers Contract (the initial maximum placement is Class V, Step 8). Salary

$55,171 to $94,109 per year. Additional earnings may be available for summer, overload, and stipends. LRCCD Salary Schedules

Additional Salary Information

Initial annual salary within a given range varies, depending upon units/degrees completed at accredited institutions and experience. Candidates not holding the minimum degree requirement may start at a salary lower than posted above.

Assignment Responsibilities

The instructional assignment may include, but is not limited to, teaching courses in all levels of Veterinary Technology in:
  • Surgery
  • Anesthesia
  • Radiology
  • Advanced Veterinary Technical Procedures
  • Dental Techniques

Additional assignments may include courses in:
  • Animal and Physiology
  • Clinical Techniques
  • Pathology
  • Veterinary Technology Practice
  • Other courses within the veterinary technology program
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

The majority of the instruction will be related to the dog and cat, but as an American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) accredited program, instruction is also required in all areas concerning other animals including horses, farm animals, birds, and laboratory animals.

Program Director Responsibilities (40%)
The program director for this American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) accredited program will be responsible for: inventory management, budget analysis and management, maintenance and establishment of clinical sites for work study, curriculum development, scheduling and chairing of advisory committee meetings, and building the Veterinary Technology program through marketing, recruitment, and industry collaboration.

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Developing the program through curriculum and facilities renewal.
  • Maintaining the program in compliance with AVMA accreditation requirements, animal welfare-United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) requirements, and State of California Veterinary Medical Board requirements.
  • Communicating with regulatory agencies.
  • Preparing and managing accreditation site visits.
  • Holding annual advisory board meetings.
  • Reviewing and maintaining animal use protocols.
  • Participating in the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Special Requirements

The faculty member must hold/obtain and maintain the necessary licenses, certificates, etc., as needed for external agency(ies) accreditation.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Have any bachelors degree or higher and two years of professional experience directly related to the assignment; OR have any associate degree and six years of professional experience directly related to veterinary technology; OR the equivalent.* All degrees must be from an accredited institution.
  2. Have a valid license to practice as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) in California.
  3. Must be a licensed veterinarian or a credentialed veterinary technician who must be a graduate of an AVMA or CVMA-accredited program.
  4. Have an equity-minded focus, responsiveness, and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles; and successfully foster and support an inclusive educational and employment environment.
