Librarian
Job Description
Virginia Highlands Community College serves our community by providing quality and affordable education, training, and cultural activities through an array of flexible, diverse programs that enable community members to succeed today and in the future.
VHCC is seeking a Librarian to manage daily operations of the library.
Rank and Salary: A 12-month professional faculty position. Rank and salary are dependent on academic preparation, qualifications, and experience. Reappointment based on performance evaluations and institutional needs.
Position Responsibilities:
- Ensures that the library provides resources and services to support the educational programs of the college.
- Works with college faculty to develop and offer bibliographic instruction programs that produce information-literate students.
- Manages and actively participates in the daily operations of the library, including staff. scheduling and supervision.
- Preparing an annual plan with budget recommendations.
- Purchasing needed library supplies, equipment, licenses, and subscriptions.
- Identifying improvements needed in the library facility and equipment needs.
- Establishes and maintains effective relationships with students, faculty & staff, and other stakeholders important to the college.
- Other duties as assigned.

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- MLS degree from an ALA-accredited program.
- Commitment to the community college mission and philosophy.
- Knowledge of state and national issues pertaining to the roles of the library in higher education.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- In-depth knowledge of current computer and instructional technology.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, faculty & staff and other stakeholders important to the college.
- Community college or academic library experience
- Experience working with the Alma integrated library system
The selected candidates offer is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background investigation, which may include: fingerprint checks, local agency checks, employment verification, verification of education, credit checks (relevant to employment).
