Position Summary

The Los Rios Community College District is seeking a pool of qualified applicants for temporary part-time faculty (Adjunct) teaching assignments. These positions are filled on an as needed basis and are on-going recruitment efforts. Applicants are contacted/hired for assignments based on college needs.

Salary

$38.21 to $95.42 per hour. Rate determined by education requirement and type of assignment (lab/lecture/non lecture/substitute). LRCCD Salary Schedules

Assignment Responsibilities

The adjunct faculty member shall be responsible for the following: teaching assigned classes under the supervision of the area dean; helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content; assessing student learning outcomes; maintaining a thorough and up-to-date knowledge in his/her regular teaching field; continuing professional development; utilizing current technology in the performance of job duties; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position; assisting with articulation and curriculum development and review; serving on college committees and participating in faculty governance including accreditation and student co-curricular activities; assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the area dean; fulfilling other duties and responsibilities of an adjunct faculty member as outlined in the college faculty handbook.

The adjunct faculty member may be responsible for but not limited to the following: supporting students enrolled in the California Department of Public Health Department; assisting students to correlate classroom content with the practical realities of the clinical setting; and increasing students ability to problem-solve clinical issues as a member of the health care team.

The adjunct faculty member, in collaboration with the area dean, shall be responsible for:
  • Planning, conducting, and supervising classroom and clinical activities including practical demonstration of procedures in accordance with approved program standards.
  • Identifying student needs for education and instruction and helping to coordinate the development of a plan to address these needs.
  • Administering quizzes and tests for the students.
  • Completing daily attendance theory/clinical sign-in sheets.
  • Completing student records in a timely manner during the course and at completion.
  • Reporting to the area dean/program director students whose work performance does not conform to the program policies and procedures.
  • Developing and maintaining the Student Handbook in collaboration with the area dean/program director.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Special Requirements

The faculty member must hold/obtain and maintain the necessary licenses, certificates, etc., as needed for external agency(ies) accreditation.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Have a bachelors degree AND two years of occupational and/or professional experience directly related to the assignment being taught; OR, an associates degree AND six years of occupational and/or professional experience directly related to the assignment being taught; OR, hold a California Community College Instructors Credential in the discipline area; OR, the equivalent.* All degrees must be from an accredited institution.
  2. One (1) year of experience as a licensed nurse providing direct patient care in a long term care facility plus one (1) year of experience planning, implementing and evaluating educational programs in nursing; OR two years of full time experience as a licensed nurse, at least one year of which must be in the provision of direct patient care in a nursing facility.
  3. Within six (6) months of employment and prior to teaching a certification program, the Director of Staff Development or Instructor shall obtain a minimum of twenty-four (24) hours of continuing education courses in planning, implementing and evaluating educational programs in nursing.
  4. Have an equity-minded focus, responsiveness, and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles; and successfully foster and support an inclusive educational and employment environment.
