Description

An experienced instructional designer who will provide expertise in training and supporting college faculty throughout the design and deployment of online and computer-mediated instruction, creation of accessible course content and utilization of open educational resources. This is an on-campus, in person position. Occasional remote work with some evening and/or weekend hours will be required.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Supports faculty in the design, development and assessment of online courses in a systematic fashion using instructional media and distance education best practices.
  • Assesses the needs of the faculty and students related to course outcomes in order to link the design and delivery of online courses to Accreditation requirements and promote student success.
  • Assists faculty with Outcome/Content/Assessment alignment and the development of assessments that evaluate student performance in higher levels of Blooms Taxonomy and promote academic integrity
  • Evaluates the accessibility of existing online course content, assists faculty in updating existing content to meet current accessibility standards and ensures that newly developed content meets current accessibility standards
  • Works closely with faculty and the library staff to select course materials and electronic resources (with an emphasis on open educational resources) for online course development.
  • Works closely with the Divisions, Adjunct Coordinators and Faculty Excellence Coordinator to provide professional development and assessment support.
  • Trains and mentors faculty on distance education best practices and the use of online software, systems and resources for both credit and non-credit instruction.
  • Promotes and assesses quality standards with regard to the development of learning support materials, online courses and professional development.
  • Provides face-to face, phone, e-mail and online support for faculty and students.
  • Prepares reports and communications.
  • Attends meetings and other activities to represent the Office of Distance Education and provide professional development as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

OVERALL PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITY:
The primary and most important overall responsibility of all employees is to provide service in a pleasant, helpful, and effective manner to our students and other members of the College community.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Education Required:
Masters degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology or related field is expected at the time of or within one year of employment.

Education Preferred:
Above plus a strong background in a degree field or discipline taught at the college. Holding one or more current Quality Matters™ roles such as: Peer Reviewer, Master Reviewer, APPQMR or IYOC Facilitator is also a plus.

Experience Required:


  • Two or more years experience teaching online classes with knowledge of online course development.
  • Minimum of two years experience in a Distance Learning environment, preferably using the Blackboard 9.1 course management software.
  • Experience in incorporating academic library resources including but not limited to: electronic, media, database, and other library resources and/or OER resources into online courses.

Skills/Abilities /Knowledge /Other Requirements
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational and time management skills
  • Experience with Instructional Systems Design and Quality Assessment techniques (e.g. ADDIE, QM, OLC Quality Framework, C-RAC Hallmarks etc.)
  • Work effectively with faculty, staff and the college community
  • Demonstrate computer fluency
  • Knowledge of online instructional design and development standards including, but not limited to: SCORM, AICC and WCAG 2.0 (or latest version)
  • Strong instructional, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with the library research and open educational resources
  • Demonstrated experience with a Course Management System (Blackboard preferred)

 

Additional Information

INSTITUTIONAL EFFECTIVENESS:
Collaborates with department members and/or the Compliance, Assessment and Research team to support planning, assessment, data collection and reporting for continuous improvement of the college.
