Position Summary:

The Director of Budget and Financial Reporting will perform a variety of high-level budgeting and financial reporting responsibilities. The position will be responsible for preparation of the College budget and financial reporting.

Staff Required Education/Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in Accounting.
• Business Administration, Finance or related field, and 3 to 5 years of general ledger accounting experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Preparation of College financial statements.
• A strong commitment to the mission of the community college.

Desired Education/Experience/Skills:

• Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance or related field or a CPA.
• Knowledge in GAAP and GASB as well as governmental accounting practice.
• Previous experience with using Colleague software program.
• Minimum of five years of progressively responsible administrative experience in the business office functional area at a comprehensive community college or university.

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
• Knowledge of budget development and management principles within governmental or higher education environments
• Knowledge of collegiate auxiliary services operations
• Skill in making timely, data-driven decisions
• Skill in the operation of computers and job related software programs
• Skill in decision making and problem solving
• Skilled in interpersonal relations
• Ability to manage multiple priorities
• Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with students, college employees and the public.
• Demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles, including governmental accounting, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
• Highly proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel and Word.

Duty and Responsibility:

• Responsible for preparation of the College budget and reviews budget adjustments during the year. Conduct regular analysis of budget positions and review budget/expenditure requests

• Responsible for preparation of the College annual financial statements

• Analyze the financial trends that affect the college’s budget

Duty and Responsibility:

• Assist in the development and implementation of management action plans to maintain a balanced budget

• Provide training for all budget managers

• Contract review in conjunction with CFAO

Duty and Responsibility:

• Monitor the work performed by all contracted 3rd party suppliers within auxiliary business units

Duty and Responsibility:

• Provide day to day direction and leadership to departmental staff

Duty and Responsibility:

• Track financial performance of auxiliary business units to ensure goals are met

Duty and Responsibility:

• Reviews monthly journal entries and posts financial information into appropriate accounts; creates journal entries; reviews and resolves discrepancies of data entered.

• Prepares and reviews a variety of basic accounting reports and other documents utilizing established guidelines; disseminates information and reports to appropriate individual(s).

• Maintains confidentiality of information exposed to in the course of business regarding students, supervisors and other employees.

• Assists with the development, implementation, monitoring, and revision of policies and procedures relating to the budget and financial reporting area.

• Assists in monitoring cash balance and investing of funds.

• Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief Financial and Administrative Officer including projects and committee work.
