Position Summary

The Office of Accessibility Services is seeking a part-time, ten-month Learning Coach/Instructional Support who will provide support to the operations of the office. The ideal candidate will have the ability to work with diverse students, assess needs, and provide appropriate academic support and/or referrals to other college resources.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Providing assistance to students with disabilities in the classroom and in the Office of Accessibility Services. These duties may include course specific tutoring and or referral as needed.
  • Proctoring placement testing and course testing, addressing any issues or roadblocks that develop during the testing process to provide personal attention to students with disabilities.
  • Providing technological training and support with Assistive Technology to students with disabilities.
  • Requesting and tracking all alternative format textbooks and materials.
  • Assisting in the reformatting of all academic materials according to student needs, i.e., text-to-speech, speech-to-text, enlarging, etc.
  • Providing support in the preparation and maintenance of all records pertaining to services rendered by OAS.
  • Providing administrative support on all levels of OAS clerical operations, such as the coordination of all office supply needs, photocopying, etc.
  • Assisting in the coordination of community outreach programs, i.e., admissions recruitment programs, transition conferences, community involvement programs, etc.
  • Assisting the OAS Director in acting as a liaison between students and other campus personnel to effectuate the administration of accommodations while observing confidentiality requirements.
  • Providing overflow support to other staff members in the Student Development area and assisting in the preparation of materials for students.
  • Attendance at C-GCC outreach events, which may include evening and weekend hours occasionally.
  • Providing basic reading and writing skill instruction to students with learning disabilities and/or at-risk populations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications

  • Teacher or Teachers Aide training
  • Technical proficiency
  • Experience providing tutoring support, study skills assistance, time management strategies or other learning support instruction to high school or college students with specific emphasis on working with students with disabilities in an academic setting.
  • Experience working with students experiencing academic challenges for any reason, including but not limited to, a lack of academic preparation, skills, or motivation, or a diagnosed learning disability, attention deficit disorder, etc.
  • An understanding of relevant disability law (e.g., the Americans with Disabilities Act), academic support theory and best practices.
  • Candidate must be detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage administrative tasks.
  • Excellent judgment and respect for confidentiality. Strong interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving/conflict resolution, and written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse students, assess needs, and provide appropriate academic support and/or referrals to other college resources.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple situations and projects.
  • Ability to utilize computer software, hardware, and other technical tools to accomplish work tasks.

Salary and Benefit Information

Hourly rate is $21.50, approximately 15 hours a week. Some benefits include New York State Retirement options, supplemental retirement and life insurance options and employee tuition waiver.

Pay: Up to $21.50 per hour
