Job Description Summary
Montgomery College is dedicated to student success and is widely recognized for the quality and scope of its academic programs. This expectation of quality has yielded top programs within the Business discipline like the Macklin Business Institute (MBI), Enactus teams that compete at the national level, the Southern Management Entrepreneurs program, and MC’s own Raptor Tank competition. Montgomery College has a long history of successfully preparing students for transfer to four-year institutions like the Smith School at the University of Maryland, Georgetown, Cornell, and the University of Pennsylvania. We are seeking a full-time Accounting faculty member to fill a position beginning August 2020 (2020-2021 academic year) who is excited by this level of excellence and is committed to student success.
The successful candidate will appreciate teaching in a multi-cultural environment, and will welcome the opportunity to work with students with diverse learning abilities. The faculty member will primarily teach Accounting courses but will also teach finance-related and select business/management courses. Faculty duties include classroom instruction, assessment, curriculum development, advising, professional inquiry, committee work and utilizing instructional technology. The majority of our courses use open educational resources (OERs) to yield cost savings for the students and the most current content for faculty. Incoming faculty will utilize OERs in alignment with the other faculty in the discipline.
Teaching assignments may include various delivery modes, such as face-to-face, on-line, hybrid and/or blended formats during days, evenings and weekends. Montgomery College has three campuses and instructs courses at area high schools. Faculty may be assigned to any of these campuses and/or teaching online.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Teaches basic, intermediate, and advanced accounting and select business/management courses; topics may include Financial Accounting (Accounting I), Managerial Accounting (Accounting II), Intermediate Accounting, Introduction to Business, Personal Finance, Statistics, and like courses.
Teaches 30 semester hours per academic year. Prepares course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments and handouts; evaluates and grades students' exams, assignments, and papers.
Teaches a varied schedule of courses that may include day, night, early morning, weekend and/or accelerated sections, compressed and online. Opportunities may exist for teaching summer classes.
Teaches at any of the three physical campuses (TPSS, Rockville, and Germantown), online, and at area high schools.
Works with embedded academic coaches and/or provides tutoring sessions for accounting coursework.
Applies culturally relevant pedagogies to the teaching and learning process.
Engages students in their learning through active, collaborative learning approaches.
Works with other faculty in the discipline to develop free of cost course materials for students using Open Educational Resources.
Incorporates the use of an educational enterprise platform (Blackboard) and other relevant technology into instruction, including inexpensive or no-cost resources in the development and delivery of instruction.
Meets with students outside of class to assist them with being successful college students.
Advises students about program curriculum, transfer options to four-year institutions, and professional/career opportunities.
Serves on, or leads, department, discipline, campus and college committees.
Maintains an active program of professional development and participates in professional organizations and activities.
Understands and commits to student success including increasing retention, transfer and graduation and creating an equitable and inclusive learning environment for diverse students.
Engages in the expansion and implementation of assessments for courses, programs and learning outcomes with the goal of increasing student success.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting with a Master's degree in any business area, or Master's degree in Accounting.
Teaching experience at the college level (associates, bachelors, or masters-level teaching); teaching done as a graduate student or as a teaching assistant will be considered.
Minimum of three (3) years of work experience in an Accounting, Business, or related field.
Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.
Ph.D. or DBA in Accounting; Ph.D. or DBA in Business Administration with an Accounting concentration; Ph.D. or DBA in Business with Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
Three (3) years of full-time teaching experience.
Professional industry experience at a CPA firm or corporation.
Experience supporting students with varying level of preparedness for college-level work.
Evidence of ongoing professional development.
Experience leading academic initiatives.
Experience teaching blended/hybrid, and distance learning (online) courses.
Demonstration of student engagement strategies that facilitate learning for students of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and experiences and help students succeed in the course.
Ability to integrate technology and classroom-related computer software into course delivery.
