The Compton Community College District is seeking an innovative individual whose focus is student learning for a full-time tenure-track position teaching Film Video/Social Media courses. Responsibilities typically include fifteen lecture teaching hours per semester; additionally, faculty are responsible for professional activities such as office hours, faculty meetings, program planning and review, SLO development and assessment, student activities, preparation/research, peer evaluations, and curriculum/instructional development. This position will include working with faculty in other areas to develop a social media program using existing and creating new courses as needed and assisting with the marketing for the program. Commitment to consistent participation on
department, division, and college committees and to ongoing professional development is expected.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Master's degree in film, drama/theater arts or mass communication OR Bachelor's degree in any of the above AND Master's degree in media studies, English or communication OR the equivalent.
The equivalent - Candidates not possessing the required qualifications as stated above, must complete the supplemental page of the District application and explain in detail how their qualifications are equivalent to those above; OR
Valid California Community College credential in appropriate subject
Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of college students, and of individuals with disabilities
Previous college-level teaching experience.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Experience developing and using effective and innovative teaching strategies to meet the needs of all learners.
Knowledge of current software and editing techniques used in the industry- Final Cut Pro, Pro Tools, Adobe Premiere, After-Effects, and Final Draft
Knowledge of the internet and its application, mobile media, social media, and their application for film y professionals
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
SALARY RANGE: $59,503 - $88,193 (depending upon education and experience)
The College provides a diversified insured benefit program for all full-time employees, including medical, dental, vision and life insurance. Dependent medical, dental and vision insurance is available, toward which the College and the employee may contribute.
Paid sick leave is granted equal to one day for each month of service. Sick leave may be accumulated indefinitely. Rather than State Disability Insurance, limited sick-leave benefits are available for days beyond the earned sick-leave days. Long-term disability income-protection insurance is also available.
Full-time employees contribute a percentage of their regular salary to either the State Teachers' Retirement System (STRS) or to the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) and Social Security.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Full-time, tenure-track teaching position effective August 20, 2020.
