Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Assistant Chief of Police, the Communications Supervisors is responsible for effectively managing and directing the daily operation of the dispatch center.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Coordinates and supervises the training, assignments, and development of subordinates
• Conducts periodic performance evaluations and planning sessions for assigned personnel; counsels assigned personnel on job performance and disciplinary matters
• Assists in the preparation and administration of the department budget
• Arranges testing and sets up applicant interviews; serves on employment interview boards
• Ensures all communication and police personnel maintain required certifications for TCIC/NCIC and TLETS and state audits and objectives are complied with
• Coordinates long-term communications facility and equipment plans
• Responsible for the accuracy and safe storage of records; ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations for record management to include retention and destruction
• Responsible for retrieving information and the maintenance of the data recording system for the communications center
• Schedules and conducts meetings
• Maintains departmental equipment, supplies and facilities
• Serves as a dispatcher when needed or as directed during times of emergencies
• Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite
• Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through Tarrant County College (TCC)
• Supports the values of the College: diversity, teaching excellence, student success, innovation and creativity and service to the College
• Supports the mission, values and 3 goals and 8 principles of the College

Required Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensures

• Must be 21 years of age
• High school diploma or general degree (GED)
• Five (5) years of experience working as a lead or communications supervisor including experience working with a Computer Aided Dispatch/Records Management System
• Valid Texas driver’s license
TCLEOSE-Advanced Telecommunications Certificate
• Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications Certificate
NCIC/TCIC Full Access Certificate

Desired Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensures

• Supervisor or Management Training
DPS NCIC/TCIC Associate Trainer Certificate
• Communications Training Officer Certificate
• National Incident Management System (NIMS) Certificates (100LE, 100HE, IS700)

Special Instructions Summary

This is an on-call position, maximum 19.5 hrs. per week. On-call work schedules may vary based on individual campus/departmental needs.
