Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Academic & Career Advisor will assist and advise current and potential students entering post-secondary education. The Academic & Career Advisor will focus primarily on supporting students as they navigate through the enrollment process and helping students establish and complete academic goals from the selection of a major through program completion and graduation.
Characteristics Duties and Responsibilities
Provide academic advising to students, which may include but is not limited to TSI score interpretation, developmental and academic course placement, degree evaluation and transfer and career planning.
Provide course recommendations for students based on academic history, field of study and student intent. This includes students who plan to transfer to a 4-year institution.
Conduct advising sessions in a variety of formats including but not limited to one-one-one advising, group advising, e-mail, and virtual advising.
Participate in college activities aimed to increase the recruitment of prospective students and retention of current students.
Must be able to work weekends and evenings.
Perform other job duties or assume additional responsibilities as assigned by the Student Success Center Director.

Required: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution.
Preferred: Prior experience working as an advisor, tutor or student mentor. Experience working in a higher education setting.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must be able to:
1. Commit to a work schedule of 19 hours/week minimum;
2. Work in a fast-paced work environment;
3. Communicate well and relate to students, parents and staff;
4. Report to Ft. McIntosh Campus or South Campus depending on assignment.
Reports to the Assistant Director of Student Success or designated South Campus supervisor.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Work is performed in a standard office environment. Work-inside a well-lighted and air-conditioned area most of the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
Required to work safely and follow safety rules. Report unsafe working conditions and behavior. Take reasonable and prudent actions to prevent others from engaging in unsafe practices.
Immediate supervisor may assign other duties. May be required to work outside regular working hours, as needed. May be required to work at a different college work site or campus as needed.
