The full-time faculty position in Surgical Technology supports the Program Chair with program planning, implementation, coordination, supervision and related program management activities. The Surgical Technology Assistant Professor provides instruction to both junior and senior Surgical Technology students in the clinical setting, labs and didactically (online and/or in the classroom). This Surgical Technology Assistant Professor demonstrates excellent surgical technology procedural skills as well as the ability to communicate with staff, students, peers and clinical rotation staff. This position helps to develop and support processes for effective administration of the Surgical Technology program to include course and program development initiatives.
The Surgical Technology Assistant Professor will be required to teach a full course load of 15 credit hours per semester. They must command strong teaching skills, creating and modeling a quality-learning environment to support a diverse student population including students with disabilities or special learning needs and effectively structure classes and curriculum to support program and course outcomes.
The Surgical Technology Assistant Professor incorporates, as pedagogically appropriate, current technology in classroom and distance learning. They also utilize a variety of technology-based programs to access and input information related to student records and college/school/department processes (e.g., Banner, D2L, grade books, etc.).
In addition to teaching, the Surgical Techonology Assistant Professor may be expected to share in broader department coordination duties on a collaborative basis. These administrative duties may include course scheduling and staffing, curriculum development, budgeting, hiring and supervising of adjunct instructors, resolving and mediating instructor/student disputes, mentoring adjunct instructors, or taking on the role of department Chair.
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, and a certificate or associate degree in Surgical Technology.
Experience: Four (4) years of full-time experience as a Surgical Technologist.
Skilled in all aspects of operating room procedures as they pertain to Surgical Technology.
Classroom instruction and curriculum development experience.
Knowledgeable of HIPAA.
Knowledge of sterile techniques and emergency protocols.
Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office products, D2L or other Learning Management products, and other computer software as necessary.
Must be a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST).
