The Compton Community College District is seeking an innovative individual whose focus is student learning for a full-time tenure-track position teaching nursing courses. The two-year Associate Degree Nursing program, approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, prepares students for entry-level employment as registered nurses in hospitals and community settings. Teaching assignments will be available in medical-surgical, obstetric and/or pediatric areas of the program. Faculty will be responsible for supervising students in clinical learning experiences, supervising students in campus-based nursing practice labs, seminar groups, and nursing theory classes in the first or second year of the program. Faculty may have a teaching assignment in more than one course. Faculty are responsible for professional activities such as office hours, faculty meetings, program planning and review, SLO development and assessment, student activities, preparation/research, peer evaluations, and curriculum/instructional development. Commitment to consistent participation on department, division, and college committees and to ongoing professional development is expected.

Compton College is part of the Compton Community College District, which encompasses an area of about 29 square miles, making educational services available to nearly 300,000 residents of Compton, Lynwood, Paramount and Willowbrook, as well as portions of Athens, Bellflower, Carson, Downey, Dominguez, Lakewood, Long Beach and South Gate. About 290 full- and part-time faculty teach more than 40 degree programs and 35 certificate programs.

The Compton College campus includes 54 buildings across 88 acres. In November 2002, the district won voter approval of Measure CC, authorizing the issuance of $100 million in general obligation bonds to upgrade classrooms, labs, infrastructure, and instructional equipment, while making much-needed health and safety repairs and energy-efficiency improvements. In November 2014, district voters approved Measure C, a $100 million facilities bond designed to make technology and safety upgrades campuswide.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's degree in nursing; OR
Bachelor's in nursing AND master's in health education or health science; OR
Direct patient care experience within the previous five (5) years in the nursing area to which he/she isassigned, which can be met by: a) One (1) year of continuous full-time or its equivalent providingdirect patient care as a registered nurse in the designated nursing area; or b) one (1) academic year ofregistered nurse level clinical teaching experience in the designated area or its equivalent thatdemonstrates clinical competency; as set by the California Board of Registered Nursing; AND
Valid California Registered Nurse License or eligibility for California licensure as a registered nurse,AND
Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the racial, socio-economic, academic, and culturaldiversity within student populations, including students with disabilities, as these factors relate to theneed for equity-minded practices
Recent community college teaching experience; experience in teaching reading, developmental and transfer-level composition; ability to address the needs of student from developmental through transfer levels, especially those who are underprepared; experience developing and using innovative teaching strategies to meet student needs; expertise with current methodology in reading and composition; successful experience with different learning technologies; experience teaching and teaching/learning online; commitment to basic skills instruction; effective oral and written communication skills.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS SALARY RANGE: $59,503 - $88,193 (depending upon education and experience)
The College provides a diversified insured benefit program for all full-time employees, includingmedical, dental, vision and life insurance. Dependent medical, dental and vision insurance is available,toward which the College and the employee may contribute.
Paid sick leave is granted equal to one day for each month of service. Sick leave may be accumulatedindefinitely. Rather than State Disability Insurance, limited sick-leave benefits are available for daysbeyond the earned sick-leave days. Long-term disability income-protection insurance is also available.
Full-time employees contribute a percentage of their regular salary to either the State Teachers'Retirement System (STRS) or to the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) and Social Security.

Full-time, tenure-track teaching position effective August 20, 2020.
