The Elaine Marieb New Directions Adult Learner Success Center (hereby known as New Directions) bridges services and resources from campus and community to meet adults academic, career, and social support needs through a cohesive web that helps adult learners to meet their educational and career goals. Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Recruitment and Enrollment Management, and in close collaboration with academic and social support programs across the college, the Senior Programs Coordinator position is responsible for coordinating activities and providing academic advising to the adult learner community at Holyoke Community College. This person will develop workshops, conduct group sessions and ultimately work toward increasing rates of retention, persistence, and completion for adult learners. The successful candidate in this role views adult learners through an asset-based lens and serves to elevate adult learners sense of belonging and value to the overall campus community.
 

The Elaine Marieb New Directions Adult Learner Success Center is an equity-driven initiative that provides integrated support services to adult students. Our vision is to provide a welcoming community to meet adult learners where they are. We seek to create the necessary guidance and support essential to achieving academic success, a sense of belonging, and ultimately, career advancement through educational attainment.

 

 

  • Collaborates with the New Directions team (Academic Coordinator and Coordinator of Career Planning and Placement) and other key stakeholders, including Itsy Bitsy Childwatch, to develop and implement comprehensive adult learner services and supports.
  • Collaborates with Community Outreach and Admissions Counselor to facilitate the recruitment, pre-admissions counseling, assessment, and educational planning of new students aged 24 and over, including parents, veterans, unemployed students, and other adult learners.
  • Advises, supports, and assesses academic and career development needs of students. Serves as academic advisor and coach for students during their transition to aid in navigating the enrollment process, program/certificate choice, and course selection. Connects students with resources, such as financial aid, Veterans Services, child watch, career services, TRIO, El Centro, ALANA, SAMP, OSDDS, and Thrive.
  • Maintains student advisee caseload to provide holistic advising, support continued matriculation, and connect students with support services to ensure academic success.
  • Utilizes EAB Navigate, Banner, Degree Works and Online Services to identify, track, and report on students and to support them in meeting key enrollment and success milestones.
  • Coordinate outreach campaigns, initiates academic plans, and follows up on academic progress reports for assigned students to ensure students in need of support receive timely assistance.
  • Collaborates with the local Department of Employment and Training Centers interested in referring clients who are seeking growth and job skill development through credit-bearing education opportunities at the college.
  • Completes unemployment paperwork for students, including creating academic plans, degree/certificate timelines, and cost estimations.
  • Enters academic programs on Training Pro for approval for Section 30 and WIOA.
  • Makes referrals to Coordinator of Career Planning and Placement for workshops on resumes/cover letters, interview preparation, professional etiquette and career and transfer guidance to facilitate the transition to college and return to the workforce for students.
  • Represents the Elaine Marieb New Directions Adult Learner Success Center at college-wide functions and in the community.
  • Participates in professional development activities, workshops, and conferences.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

 

REQUIRED:

  • Master's degree with three years demonstrated experience in related work OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience;
  • Three (3) years experience and/or training in education, counseling;
  • Experience with adult learners and female veteran's, strong knowledge of VA benefits;
  • Experience with Veterans Certification;
  • Computer skills;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Team player; Independent worker and self-starter;
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff and student body.

Full-time, MCCC Unit Professional position


Salary Range: 
Grade 5; Salary Range: $59,224 - $66,252/year; Actual salary will be commensurate with education and experience in accordance with MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement. Full State benefits.
 

Hours:
 37.5 hrs./week
Funding Source: Grant
