Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) announces an opportunity to work as a full-time, tenure-track Academic Counselor in LTCC's One Stop and Counseling department.
Research shows that counseling support services are critical in helping students achieve their personal, academic, and career goals. LTCC recognizes the vital role of counseling faculty in students’ lives and academic careers and, therefore, plans to ensure that students have reliable access to counselors to meet their diverse needs.
LTCC has adopted several new programs and initiatives that have and will continue to require greater involvement from the Counseling department. These include the following:
(1) Guided Pathways
(2) Lake Tahoe College Promise
(3) Continued expansion of the Incarcerated Students Program
(4) Combined registration for Summer/Fall and Winter/Spring quarters
(5) Extended evening hours in the One Stop.
Additionally, the Vision for Success goals established by the California Community College Chancellor’s Office require more enhanced counselor support. This innovative model places a stronger emphasis on utilizing the expertise of counselors to provide core student support services to newly enrolled and continuing students. The Vision for Success highlights student success goals that the California Community College system is aiming to reach, including ambition student completion, transfer, career, equity, and achievement goals. The counselors at LTCC will play a leading role in achieving the goals in the Vision for Success as well as earning apportionment funding as students achieve their goals. The successful implementation of Guided Pathways will be central to meeting these goals and will be dependent on the harmonious collaboration of all departments working together to streamline and deliver all of the available services needed to help students succeed academically.
This position is a 200-day contract over the period of 12 months, including summer and winter hours with evening and weekend responsibility. The work calendar may need to be adjusted as the position and programs grow and change.
