Specific Position Duties
Teach face-to-face classes; dual credit and OCTECHS courses; Web courses; and Hybrid courses as assigned. Teach traditional students using a variety of instructional technologies.
Participate in and contribute to curriculum development by planning, developing, and evaluating new and existing courses and curriculum.
Assist with recruitment, advisement, retention, and curriculum planning as well as participation in departmental and campus-wide committees.
Communicate effectively to groups through either practiced or extemporaneous presentations and facilitate learning in classroom or laboratory settings.
Utilize appropriately challenging coursework to help students realize their full potential as learners.
Consistently measure and evaluate achievement of student learning outcomes and make recommendations for improvement as needed.
Provide students with written expectations in such matters as syllabi, policies, assignment instructions, graded evaluations, etc.
Deliver material in a clear and understandable manner.
Administer tests which are appropriate to course content, including a comprehensive final exam measuring overall grasp of course objectives.
Address student concerns in comments, questions, and input, both in class and via posted office hours, timely electronic communication, and other suitable means.
Prepare adequately for class and arrive promptly at class meetings, as well as departmental meetings and any other scheduled instructional activities.
Maintain individual student advisement on degree plans and degree applications in order to comply with completion requirements.
Maintain an appropriate learning and assessment climate in the classroom, whether traditional, web, or distance, which encourages the free exchange of ideas while defending academic honesty and objectivity.
Teach students from a wide spectrum of ages and from diverse social and cultural backgrounds with varying learning styles; by ways and means of instructing students, affirm the worth and dignity of all persons and the right of all persons to learn.
Effectively handle routine procedures necessary for the successful, day-to-day operation of the department as delegated by the department chair.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge in the criminal justice and teaching fields and align coursework to industry-standards.
