ABOUT THE COLLEGE:

Green River College's student body is made up of approximately 41% Academic Transfer students, 34% Professional-Technical, 15% Adult Basic Education, 3% Applied Bachelor degrees. Green River College has four campuses, including the main campus in Auburn, with satellite campuses in Kent, downtown Auburn, and Enumclaw. Green River programs serve high school graduates, Running Start students (dual enrollment in local high schools and the college), those seeking retraining for the workforce, international students, students learning English, and Continuing Education students. Green River's service areas are increasingly ethnically diverse, comprising African Americans, African immigrants, Asian Americans, Asians, Latinx, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders, and Middle Eastern Americans, among other communities.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The primary function of the International Admissions Officer/DSO is to develop and deliver international admissions and business processes that are separate and distinct from the main College. This position serves as an integral point of contact with outside entities such as international schools, educational agencies, prospective international students and their parents. This position has a large volume of client interactions and outreach and will recommend, develop and implement improvements to help the department reach international enrollment goals. This position requires extensive knowledge of college and department programs, policies and priorities. This position is a key member of the International Admissions and Business Operations area (ABO), a member of the International Services & Operations Team and reports to the International Programs Business Manager.

 

Position Responsibilities

 

  • Serve international students as a registered Designated School Official with the US Student and Exchange Visitor Program from inquiry through transfer
  • Apply department policies and Department of Homeland Security regulations to international applications, credentials and transcripts and independently make admission decisions
  • Issue SEVIS Form I-20 within 48 business hours of completed application
  • Collaborate and actively participate in the recruitment and retention of international students in alignment with International Marketers and in support of department goals
  • Cultivate and maintain excellent working relationships with new or established international agents and organizations using relationship marketing and public relations protocol and principles
  • Represent the department as a stellar front office customer service representative by providing warm and friendly reception services to all guests of the department, in person, by phone and in writing
  • Host and meet with educational agency representatives, prospective students and their parents
  • As a member of the International ABO and Enrollment Management Teams, meet regularly to collaborate with others for continuous improvement of International Admissions procedures
  • Maintain relationships and collaborate with the Cashiering and Enrollment Services departments
  • Assist as needed to review for accuracy any website content and print publications that support international outreach as well as online and print versions of the international admission application
  • Represent Green River IP at local or regional meetings, conferences and recruitment fairs as needed
  • Make presentations to the public and students regarding program policies
  • May assist in the orientation and training of other Services & Operations staff and student assistants
  • Lead project teams and execute other related responsibilities as assigned

Minimum Requirements , Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated intercultural competence
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Experience living or working in an international environment
  • Highly effective written and oral communication and excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to maintain long-term, successful relationships
  • Very flexible, with the ability to be self-directed as well as a collaborative team player
  • Ability to proficiently use computer databases, applications and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work on projects and data entry with precision and detailed accuracy
  • Experience working in a complex and dynamic environment where success is often the result of cooperation and collaboration with internal and external entities or clients
  • Good sense of humor, positive and friendly demeanor
  • Respect for and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work alternative hours as required, including weekends and evenings
  • High school graduation or equivalent and four years of full-time administrative experience or equivalent education/experience
  • Ability to work within legal and ethical guidelines for WA state higher education institutions
 

Preferred 
Qualifications , Knowledge, and Abilities :
  • Proficiency with languages other than English
  • Experience working with international education agencies
  • Experience working in a community college
  • Experience working with international students
  • Direct marketing and sales experience representing educational products and services
  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of international cultures, immigration policies and procedures, and federal government regulations for visa holders
  • Willingness to travel independently for the purpose of recruiting international students
  • Experience working in student services
  • Specialized training or experience working in an environment that fosters excellent customer service
  • Demonstrated commitment to higher education
  • Associates or Bachelors degree
 

Special Requirement, Licenses, and Certifications:
US Citizenship or Permanent Residency required to register as a Designated School Official (DSO) with the Department of Homeland Security; completion of DSO and Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) training required within three months of hire.
