Duties and Responsibilities
Application Pool Notice
Laredo College continuously accepts applications for part-time (adjunct) instructors to create a pool of candidates for each session/semester. Applications will be reviewed and positions will be filled based on department needs. Applications received for this pool will remain active for one year.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide instruction and monitor teaching/learning effectiveness in the area of Medical Office Assisting. Develop curriculum and instructional strategies to meet the competencies addressed in the particular area of Medical Office Clerk.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Develop course/program curriculum to address the particular area of instruction via remote, face to face, or hybrid courses.
Prepare and, on the first day of class, distribute departmental syllabus which inform students about course requirements, grading requirements, testing assignments, absence policy, and other pertinent information for each course assigned.
Compile, administer and grade assignments and examinations in a timely manner so that the student is aware of his/her progress and allow time for the development of a plan that will promote student success and a positive outcome. Use computer and internet programs to disseminate information to students, prepare exams, and prepare class presentations as pertinent.
Follow the procedures related to the Registrar’s Office, including grade reports and deadlines, attendance record reports, withdrawal deadlines, mid-semester progress reports, Continuing Education paperwork and the like.
Participate on in-service training activities offered by the department.
Use current technology to enhance effectiveness, including but not limited to computers, overhead projectors, PowerPoint, CANVAS, Google Classrooms, DVD/VCR equipment.
Inform the student through written information, email or website course requirements, grade determination, testing and other assignments as well as information regarding other departmental policies. This information is to be supplied to the student for each course a faculty member is assigned to teach.
Work a flexible schedule as determined by instructional activities.
Coordinate instructional activities with other faculty/staff in order to plan and promote the most effective instructional programs possible.
Maintain FERPA standards as applied to public institution
Perform other duties assigned by the Dean of Community Education, VP – Provost and/or Laredo College President.

Minimum of an Associate’s Degree with a credential in a health science profession.
Three years’ work experience in the area of Medical Office Assisting.
Three years teaching experience
Health Science related credential
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Good writing skills, vocabulary skills, and computer skills.
Must be able to operate medical office equipment and audio-visual instructional materials.
Must be able to develop and use laboratory/lecture/online strategies that enhance teaching effectiveness and promote student learning.
Must be ethical when evaluating student outcomes.
Must know how to navigate through the internet and social networks.
Ability to maintain excellent working relationships with the program staff and participants.
Must be knowledgeable, mature and concerned with the academic progress of participants.
Must be Bilingual.
Must demonstrate enthusiasm.
Must demonstrate initiative, be a self-starter and positive role model.
Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in written form.
Ability to instruct and maintain emotional control under stress.
