North Hennepin Community College, one of the largest and most diverse two-year colleges in Minnesota seeks an experienced professional to serve an Unlimited, Full-time, SSS/TRIO Academic Advisor (MnSCU Academic Professional 2).
Salary Minimum: $21.30
Salary Maximum: $28.78
Salary Type: Hourly
Bargaining Unit/Plan: 214, MAPE
Job Description
Provide specialized holistic individual academic advising, guidance and support services to SSS/TRIO program participants as defined in the approved grant proposal to assist them with remaining in college, graduating and or transferring to a four-year college or university.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling and Student Personnel Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Organizational Management, Liberal Arts or related degree area, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience working with students who are TRIO eligible, or from diverse ethnic backgrounds, or non-traditional aged students.
Strong public relations, presentation and writing skills.
Strong interpersonal relationship and communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work well within a small team of staff.
Demonstrated self-starter with strong organizational and leadership skills.
Proficient and efficient at using computer technology including internet and Microsoft Office, using databases to enter and review student data, virtual communication tools such as Zoom, and other platforms such as "EAB Navigate" for tracking and keeping records of student contacts.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree
Experience working in a higher education setting providing academic. advising, or counseling in a TRIO program or similar program.
Experience creating and developing career and degree plans.
Demonstrated understanding of the mission and philosophy of TRIO programs.
Experience assisting students with career exploration and the financial aid process.
Experience creating academic, career or financial literacy workshops.
Experience in student services or related area .
