Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Department of Earth, Marine, and Environmental Sciences (EMES) at UNC-CH advances understanding of the earth and ocean processes that govern our planet, shape diverse ecosystems, sustain life, and drive environmental change. Position Summary
The Department of Earth, Marine, and Environmental Sciences at University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill seeks a highly qualified and motivated applicant to investigate the evolution of active fault systems and topography using satellite remote sensing. The successful candidate will pursue independent research on topics that may include the geodetic imaging of interseismic and co-seismic deformation along active faults using radar data; the influence of hydrologic loading on lithospheric deformation; and the kinematics of mountain building in the Indo-Asian collision zone.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Applicants should have or expect to have a Ph.D. in geology, geodynamics, geomorphology, remote sensing, or other relevant discipline. Experience with satellite observations of active deformation and/or numerical modeling of lithospheric deformation, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Ability to work independently, conduct and oversee research, and communicate results to a professional audience as demonstrated by scholarly activity and publications.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Familiarity and expertise with processing and interpretation of lithospheric deformation from satellite remote sensing.
