Success Coach
Job Description
The Success Coach will work with local educational agencies to identify potential students interested in high demand, high wage occupations while providing guidance and information into career and college pathways. Under the direction and supervision of the Executive Director of Student Services, this position will educate high school counselors, career coaches, teachers, students, and parents about post-secondary opportunities at Reid State Technical College.
Salary: Commensurate with education and experience according to ACCS Board of Trustees Salary Schedule E3/04. (This is a grant-funded position. Continued employment is dependent on continued funding).
At a minimum, the essential functions of the Success Coach are to:
- Work with local high school counselors and career coaches on technical programs available at Reid State Technical College.
- Advise students on the benefits of obtaining career, technical, and dual enrollment education.
- Provide a calendar of upcoming events and activities to college, and school administrators and staff.
- Assist the College with recruitment, admissions, enrollment, and financial aid processes.
- Assist school counselors with registering students for ACT, SAT, and/or ASPIRE test and reviewing and discussing results.
- Assist Testing Services with assessing student preparedness to enter college.
- Invite Business/Industry Leaders to speak to students about careers.
- Introduce students to “Soft Skills,” i.e., resume assistance, dress for success, etc.
- Coordinate college program visits to share information with students.
- Initiate the Summer Support Program for students prior to college enrollment.
- Implement personalized task lists for students to complete over the summer.
- Participate in school related activities in which enrollment can be promoted, i.e., Parent(s) Night(s), Athletic events, Academic Booster Clubs, FAFSA nights, etc.
- Work with Student Services Team members to meet RSTC enrollment goals.
- Maintain records for enrollment, tracking, and grant reporting purposes
- Participate in team meetings and professional development activities.
- Engage all stakeholders, including, but not limited to high school students, counselors, career coaches, teachers, and parents with informational sessions concerning Reid State Technical College.
- Build professional partnerships with secondary school personnel.
- Promote the philosophy, mission, and vision of RSTC to the public.
- Represent the College professionally while handling all student inquiries confidentially.
- Collaborate with department chairs and program directors to stay abreast of program changes.
- Submit monthly progress reports on services provided to local communities and schools.
- Communicate with department chairs and program directors about opportunities for growth, improvement, and innovative programs based on secondary school feedback.
- Establish a relationship with our local education agencies to create meaningful opportunities, early access and awareness for first generation students.
- Comply with all Local Education Agencies (LEA) and the State Department of Education policies.
- Comply with the policies of the Alabama Community College System.
- Work well with others and show respect to all college constituents.
Qualifications
- A minimum of a bachelors degree from a regionally accredited college.
- Two years related experience in the field of Social Work, Counseling, Human Resources Services, Psychology, Education or other related human service degree from a regionally accredited institution.
- Computer Skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.) and database programs.
- Experience working with low income, high risk or under-represented students.
- Demonstrated ability to build meaningful, quality relationships.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters Degree from a regionally accredited college.
- Minimum (2) years work experience in Student Affairs at an institution of higher learning
- An understanding of an commitment to the philosophy and mission of the Alabama Community College System.
- Ability to organize and work independently.
