Job Description
The Dean of Nursing Education will provide leadership for the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN), Practical Nursing (PN), Medical Assisting (MA) and Nurse Assistant Aide (CNA) programs, including curriculum development, economic and workforce initiatives, initiating and recognizing College projects, and fostering and strengthening community partnerships.

Essential Functions:
  • Coordinates and ensures Nursing Program adherence and compliance to the Illinois State Board of Nursing Division. (ISBN).
  • Coordinates and ensures Nursing Program adherence to the Illinois Consortium for Nursing Education (IACN) operating guidelines.
  • Supports and ensures Nursing program and College accreditation.
  • Serves as Liaison to EnRich Healthcare and Decatur Memorial Hospital in growing Healthcare Professions program enrollments.
  • Helps set nursing division priorities and coordinate the development of division policies and procedures; Including but not limited to those regarding selection, admission, evaluation, and retention of health profession students.
  • Supports full-time and associate faculty in the nursing programs.
  • Facilitates faculty recruitment efforts for the nursing programs.
  • Collaborates in the development of faculty and student schedules for the nursing programs.
  • Develops, updates, and maintains programmatic policies and handbooks.
  • Fosters and maintains an environment conducive to teaching and learning, including coordination and support of faculty assignments.
  • Provides leadership in and contributes to the colleges diversity plan by fostering an environment of cooperation between students, staff and the public who represent a variety of cultural, social, economic, and educational backgrounds.
  • Aligns instructional culture with principles and practices of equitable and inclusive teaching and learning.
  • Coordinates program activities, delegates responsibilities to faculty as appropriate.
  • Seeks, coordinates, and evaluates facilities for clinical placement of nursing students.
  • Provides leadership in curriculum design, instructional delivery, accreditation, student concerns, and assessment activities.
  • Work with faculty to promote students safety in labs and clinical sites.
  • Maintains affiliation agreements and articulation relationships with RN-BSN programs
  • Establish and maintain relationships with the community, advisory committee members, and other community partners including clinical agencies and professional organizations.
  • Enforce college policies, including compliance with Collective Bargaining Agreements.
  • Contributes to the budget review and collaborates with college admissions and advising related to program entry.
  • Facilitation of faculty development and performance review.
  • Notification to the Division of program changes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
The Dean or of Nursing Education must hold at least a masters degree in nursing with documentation of preparation or experience in curriculum and teaching; and have at least four years of full-time nursing experience or the equivalent, of which two years must have been in patient care, and two years must have been as a Nurse Educator or administrative position in a nursing education program.
Current, unencumbered state of Illinois License in Nursing.
Ability to exemplify traits that reflect the Colleges culture, including integrity, a customer service orientation, cultural competency, trustworthiness, flexibility and a willingness to change.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing and to work effectively with teachers/faculty. Knowledge of accreditation, state requirements for the health care industry, current trends in the health professions, and College policies and procedures. Experience in curriculum development and program evaluation. Must be able to organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines. Possess strong verbal, written, analytical skills, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Must be capable of adapting rapidly to a variety of situations.

EXPECTED
 HOURS OF WORK
Typical work hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Some flexibility in hours is allowed. There may be irregular hours periodically including weekend and/or evening hours for class observations, Board meetings, recruiting events, and program advisory committee meetings. Summer hours may vary. This position may be eligible for the alternative work arrangement plan.
 

TRAVEL
 

Travel to area high schools, local events, and health facilities to build relationships within the community. Quarterly travel within Illinois to attend nursing dean and directors meetings. Annual in or out-of-state travel to conferences for professional development and College service.

Salary
Pay Grade E-15 Minimum Starting $84,870
