Summary

The Department of Statistics is a diverse and vibrant intellectual community dedicated to excellence through research and teaching. Statistics is home to 85 Ph.D. students, 25 faculty members, and 300 master's students. The Doctoral Program Coordinator coordinates all matters about the recruitment, admissions, and tracking of the students of the Statistics Doctoral Program. This position provides a broad range of services to our students and faculty. An enthusiastic, welcoming, and cheerful personality is critical.

Our Student Services office is fast-paced and focuses on the student experience and the staff team. The Doctoral Program Coordinator is an essential part of our student services team.  We strive to create an environment that is accessible and supportive to everyone.

This is a full-time position. We offer 1 remote work day per week during the academic year with increased flexibility during term breaks and the summer. We support flexible work schedules based on LSA policy. 

Responsibilities*

Admission and Recruiting:

  • Coordinate all aspects of the doctoral admission process. Be a main point of contact for prospective applicants, current applicants, and admitted prospective students.
  • Disseminate information about the application and admission process to the faculty admissions committee. Manage a pool of about 600 applications.
  • In consultation with the Director of PhD Programs and the Student Services Manager, communicate with applicants about admission decisions and financial packages.

Administrative Student Support:

  • Track PhD milestones such as placement and preliminary exams, proposal defense, annual reviews, and dissertation committee.
  • Provide a point of contact for PhD students with questions on policies and procedures. 
  • Support the department's Graduate Curriculum Committee.

PhD Program Funding:

  • Collect, organize, and manage information regarding student funding models and individual funding plans. Track and coordinate all student funding and support, including processing all graduate student financial aid awards. 
  • Assist with the call for nominations for all internal and external awards, including but not limited to Rackham awards, for which departmental nominations are required. 
     

Required Qualifications*

A high school degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and a minimum of four years experience of relevant administrative work experience is required. The successful candidate will have experience working in a higher education environment and an interest in student development and college academic affairs.

Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills are required. The successful candidate will be able to work effectively with a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff. This position requires the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information in a professional manner. We require a high level of proficiency and accuracy with a wide range of Microsoft Office products and the ability and desire to learn quickly and adapt to new software and technology.

The successful candidate must be a self-starter, have excellent organizational skills, be able to set priorities, handle multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and learn quickly. A high degree of attention to detail and accuracy is required. 
 

Desired Qualifications*

Bachelor's degree; four or more years of experience working in graduate student administration is desired. Experience with M-Pathways student administration and financial systems and knowledge of University and Rackham policies and procedures is preferred.

Work Schedule

Remote/Flexible Work:  One day a week remotely during the academic school year is possible. Flexibility during breaks and spring/summer terms is possible.
