Position Summary

 

ABOUT THE COLLEGE:
Green River College's student body is made up of approximately 41% Academic Transfer students, 34% Professional-Technical, 15% Adult Basic Education, 3% Applied Bachelor degrees. Green River College has four campuses, including the main campus in Auburn, with satellite campuses in Kent, downtown Auburn, and Enumclaw. Green River programs serve high school graduates, Running Start students (dual enrollment in local high schools and the college), those seeking retraining for the workforce, international students, students learning English, and Continuing Education students. Green River's service areas are increasingly ethnically diverse, comprising African Americans, African immigrants, Asian Americans, Asians, Latinx, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders, and Middle Eastern Americans, among other communities.

The Asian American & Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institution (AANAPISI) Project Director is a full-time, 12-month, grant-funded administrative position. Green River College is a recipient of funding from the Department of Education (ED) through the 2023-2028 AANAPISI grant. The purpose of the grant is to help institutions that serve Asian American (AA) and Pacific Islander (PI) better support their enrollment, progress, credential completion, and graduation. Responsible for providing overall leadership, direction, and coordination for the AANAPISI grant deliverables. This position will be a part of the Student Affairs Division, specifically housed in the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and will work collaboratively with the Office of the Vice President of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion and other areas across campus. The Project Director administers the grant to promote student retention, persistence, and success through building upon the colleges history and capacity to serve Asian American and Pacific Islander students.

 

Position Responsibilities

 

ADMINISTRATIVE PROGRAM MANAGEMENT:
  • Provide leadership and management to the AANAPISI program, including oversight of daily operations, monitoring of goals/objectives, documentation, and evaluations.
  • Liaise between the program and other identified stakeholders (college and non-college) to ensure project visibility and institutional support. Promote and represent AANAPISI program.
  • Establish a timeline for annual scheduled programs and advising activities.
  • Direct the provision of services and the creation and management of resources as needed.
  • Maintain fiscal control of and accountability for all AANAPISI program budgets. Prepare and monitor all AANAPISI budgets (including planning and projecting expenditures).
  • Implement and maintain comprehensive systems for student participation and progress tracking to meet Federal reporting requirements, with Institutional Effectiveness office.
  • Maintain open communications with the College's Financial Aid and Foundation offices to coordinate financial aid awards, scholarships, and emergency aid for basic needs.
  • Oversee the maintenance of procedural manuals and revise them regularly.
 

GRANT MANAGEMENT:
  • Interpret and implement applicable ED regulations, and ensure internal accountability, by carrying out a comprehensive formative and summative evaluation plan.
  • Prepare and submit performance reports as required to meet ED and institutional needs.
  • Utilize GRC electronic tools (ctcLink, EAB Navigate, etc.) to compile, secure, analyze, and report student data for evaluation and submission to ED for required reporting.
  • With External Evaluator, use, monitor, and assess efficacy of evaluation tools/methods.
 

OTHER:
  • Attend staff and team meetings as a member of the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion office.
  • Represent the college to external agencies and on community boards as applicable.
  • Serve on college committees as requested.
  • Provide oversight and support for the AANAPISI mentorship program, which includes managing student leaders such as Peer Navigators and Office Assistants.
  • Establish connections with the Asian Student Union; Pacific Islander Student Union; and the Pacific Islander, Asian, Asian American Caucus; and relevant entities to foster collaboration and support within GRCs community.
  • Meet regularly with the AANAPISI steering committee.
  • Build collaborative relationships and partnerships with relevant AANAPISI-related community organizations in the King County and Pierce County areas.

 

Qualifications

 


Minimum Qualifications:
 

Academic Credentials
  • Possession of a bachelors degree or 5+ years experience with Asian American, Pacific Islander, first generation, and/or low-income populations.
Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion:
  • Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) principles by having experience providing and coordinating services to underrepresented students, including those from low-income and historically minoritized backgrounds.
Student-Centered Leadership:
  • Experience leading college-based, student-centered programs, services, and special events. This experience should include direct service provision to students.
Technological Proficiency:
  • Proficiency in utilizing technology for data collection, analysis, and distribution such as Microsoft Office.
Project Management Skills:
  • Experience in managing multiple projects and deadlines, showcasing strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Experience meeting the standards and requirements of grants or contracts: e.g., service delivery, evaluation, and reporting.
Supervisory Experience:
  • Experience in managing, supervising, and evaluating staff, particularly in a diverse learning environment.
Understanding of AANAPISI Students:
  • Demonstrated understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing Asian American and Pacific Islander students in higher education.
Outreach and Engagement:
  • Proven ability to develop and implement effective outreach strategies and retention practices to connect with AANAPISI-eligible students.
  • Experience building collaborative relationships and partnerships with community partners.
Mentorship Program Oversight:
  • Experience providing oversight and support for an AANAPISI mentorship program or a mentorship program for underrepresented students, including those from low-income and historically minoritized backgrounds.
Community Collaboration:
  • Ability to develop and implement effective outreach strategies and retention practices.
 

Preferred Qualifications:
    • Advanced Degree in a Relevant Field: Possession of a master's degree in a pertinent discipline such as Higher Education Leadership, Ethnic Studies, Pacific Islander Studies, Asian American Studies, Social Science, Social Work, or relevant field.
    • Expertise in Compliance and Grant Management: Proficiency in navigating state and federal compliance standards, coupled with a track record of successful grant management, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements; successful administration of grants, particularly the AANAPISI grant or similar Department of Education (ED) grants. This experience should highlight effective utilization of grant funds and a comprehensive understanding of the goals and requirements associated with such initiatives.
    • In-Depth Understanding of Washington State Community/Technical College System Experience and familiarity with the intricacies of the Washington State community/technical college system, showcasing a nuanced understanding of its structure, policies, and operational dynamics.
