Job Description

Position Summary

The Automotive Mechanics Instructor organizes and delivers instruction, manages instructional resources, and continually assesses and monitors learning. The Instructor will manage the programs responsibilities, enhance program organization, provide learner guidance and referral, and maintain knowledge through professional development. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Inform students concerning course requirements, evaluation procedures, attendance requirements and academic progress.
  • Develop instructional plans, properly sequence and pace classroom activities, and link instructions to learner needs and abilities.
  • Provide quality classroom instruction.
  • Seek continuous improvement in curriculum, instruction, and resources.
  • Participate fully in the institutional planning process and assist in carrying out the overall instructional mission of the College.
  • Prepare and grade assignments, projects and examinations as required.
  • Assist in registration and pre-registration as needed.
  • Maintain an inventory of assigned equipment and supplies.
  • Serve on College committees when requested.
  • Submit required reports to the Division Chair or Dean of Career and Technical Education.
  • Inform students of educational and occupational opportunities.
  • Provide a proper instructional environment and maintain good human relations in the classroom so that learning is more effective.
  • Participate in faculty and professional organizations.
  • Maintain a craft advisory committee in accordance with the Alabama Community College System Craft Advisory Committee manual.
  • Recommend library books and other instructional materials.
  • Maintain compliance with College and program related accreditation and certification standards.
  • Retain and submit documentation as required to support accreditation efforts.
  • Perform other work-related responsibilities as assigned by the Division Chair, Dean of Career and Technical Education, Vice President, and/or President.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, other employees, and the public.
  • Hands-on knowledge of automotive and light truck body and collision repair.
  • Ability to project a professional and congenial demeanor.
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent oral, auditory, and written communication.

 

 

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associate degree in a related field from an accredited college.
  • Five years (5) of full-time work experience in the field.
  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications (minimum of 4) required or equivalent Manufacturer Certifications
     One ASE certification shall be ASE-6 – Electrical and Electronics Systems or Manufacturer Certification equivalent.

Preferred Requirements:

  • ASE Master Certification
  • Prior teaching experience
