This is a full-time, tenure track faculty position beginning September 2024, and continuing with annual nine-month contracts.

About The College: The student body at Green River College is made up of approximately 34% Academic Transfer students, 30% Professional-Technical, 11% Adult Basic Education, 25% Continuing & Community Education. In addition, there are five Bachelors of Applied Science four-year degrees offered. Green River College has four campuses, including the main campus in Auburn, with satellite campuses in Kent, downtown Auburn, and Enumclaw. Green River programs serve high school graduates, Running Start students (dual enrollment in local high schools and the college), those seeking retraining for the workforce, international students, students learning English as a second language, and Continuing Education students. Green River's service areas are increasingly ethnically diverse, comprising African Americans, African immigrants, Asian Americans, Asians, Latinos/as, Native Americans, and Pacific Islanders among other communities.

Description: The Social Science Division at Green River College is seeking an innovative Cultural Anthropology Instructor to teach freshman and sophomore courses. These courses include, but are not limited to, Survey of Anthropology (four fields), Cultural Anthropology, and other related Anthropology classes. We are looking for an instructor who is deeply committed to the community college mission, has a passion for teaching, advising, empowering students, and is dedicated to active participation within both the Social Science Division and the College.

 

Position Responsibilities

 

  • Teach full load of three Anthropology classes per quarter as part of the college's academic transfer program through diverse modalities – in-person, hybrid and online.
  • Design and develop curriculum for new and existing anthropology classes.
  • Advise students, serve on committees, and perform other duties as outlined in the negotiated collective bargaining agreement.
  • Participate in college and division professional activities.
  • Maintain strong collegial and collaborative relationships within the Anthropology Department, the Social Science Division, and the broader Green River College campus community.

 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Anthropology
  • Substantive coursework in Cultural Anthropology
  • Successful experience teaching college-level introductory anthropology (four fields) and cultural anthropology classes (part time or full time).
  • Demonstrated experience working with people of diverse racial, ethnic, socioeconomic backgrounds, and levels of academic preparedness.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Significant graduate-level coursework in Anthropology beyond the masters degree exemplified by a PhD or ABD status.
  • Experience (part-time or full-time) successfully teaching community college Anthropology survey courses as the instructor of record.
  • Demonstrated experience successfully advancing the educational success of underrepresented and underserved communities.
  • Experience teaching in diverse modalities
  • Use of innovative educational technologies

This is a full-time tenure-track position beginning Fall 2024, continuing with annual nine month contracts. The salary will be determined according to the candidate's educational background, teaching experience and applicable work experience.
This position has been designated as a bargaining unit position represented by The Green River United Faculty Coalition.
