Director of Financial Operations

Bargaining Unit/Salary Level: The Director of Financial Operations is a confidential position, level seven.

Responsibilities: The Maine Community College System (MCCS) is looking for a full-time Director of Financial Operations. The Director is responsible for providing direction and leadership on financial accounting and internal control operations to the Deans of Finance of the seven colleges and to manage the payroll, accounts payable and financial reporting operations for the Maine Community College System. This includes duties such as managing the daily operations of payroll, accounts payable, and general accounting functions, reporting (e.g. budget variance, OPEGA, etc.), monthly closings, compliance, etc. This position serves as a liaison with the State of Maine Controller's Office, Maine Public Employees Retirement System, and external auditors.

Minimum Qualifications: The required minimum qualifications include a bachelors degree in accounting, finance or business administration and ten+ years of progressive management experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities include, but not limited to the following:

  • Knowledge of financial accounting systems (e.g. Jenzabar, Anthology)
  • Knowledge of payroll systems (e.g. Paycom)
  • Knowledge of tax administration - especially in payroll related taxes and regulations
  • Knowledge of Federal regulations regarding grant & financial aid administration and ACA (A-21, 110, 133) Knowledge of state regulations (i.e. OPEGA)
  • Supervisory and managerial experience with excellent oral and written communication skills.
