ABOUT THE COLLEGE:

Green River College's student body is made up of approximately 41% Academic Transfer students, 34% Professional-Technical, 15% Adult Basic Education, 3% Applied Bachelor degrees. Green River College has four campuses, including the main campus in Auburn, with satellite campuses in Kent, downtown Auburn, and Enumclaw. Green River programs serve high school graduates, Running Start students (dual enrollment in local high schools and the college), those seeking retraining for the workforce, international students, students learning English, and Continuing Education students. Green River's service areas are increasingly ethnically diverse, comprising African Americans, African immigrants, Asian Americans, Asians, Latinx, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders, and Middle Eastern Americans, among other communities.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Under general direction of Bookstore Manager, interviews, recommends applicants, and leads assigned bookstore and/or service personnel in all retail and/or service bookstore operations such as customer service, point of sale, ordering, receiving, sales, inventory, cash control, promotions, merchandising; acts with authority in the absence of Bookstore Manager; supervises bookstore part-time personnel.


 

Position Responsibilities

 

  • With Delegated authority, interviews and recommends selection of applicants, trains new employees, assigns and schedules work, acts upon leave requests, conducts annual performance evaluations and recommends disciplinary action
  • Leads Customer Service in the bookstore by personal example, and overseeing part-time employees
  • Leads retail financial record keeping and cash centered duties of a retail and / or service operation
  • Maintaining and checking the accuracy of all bookstore inventories, orders non-textbook merchandise for resale, such as art supplies, engineering supplies, gift merchandise, school supplies, etc
  • Receive, price, and stock apparel, gifts, and supplies
  • Orders store use merchandise
  • Works with faculty and departments to develop order requirements
  • Coordinate displays, store arrangements with seasonal changes, special sales and new merchandise
  • Work with vendor agents from selected manufactures and wholesalers and plan inventory levels to meet anticipated needs; review catalogues for new goods.
  • Regularly assign, instruct, and check the work of part-time employees, temporary staff and/or others
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of sales floor and assigned stockroom
  • Perform related duties as required.

Secondary Responsibilities:
  • Perform the duties of a Retail Clerk Il
  • Operation of cash registers
  • May make bank deposits
  • Buy back books from students, retag and shelve
  • Performs closing operation of the store
  • Making student ID cards when needed
  • Handling cash register voids, refunds, price overrides, etc when needed
  • Provide customer service for fax, email, and copy services when needed.

 

Qualifications

 


Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • One (1) year of experience with a computerized Point of Sale inventory system
  • One (1) year of experience with cash control
  • Demonstrated outstanding retail & customer service skills
  • Demonstrated strong computer skills (experience w/ Microsoft Office products)
  • Demonstrated strong communication and supervisory skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Three (3) years of experience with a computerized Point of Sale inventory system
  • Three (3) years of experience in retail or in customer service oriented field
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience


WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Ability to stand for prolonged period of time
  • Frequent repetitive arm, hand, and finger motions
  • Frequent use of computer and exposure to terminal screen in performing work assignments
  • Must be able to maintain "regular and predictable attendance"
  • Must have the ability to lift/carry equipment/supplies up to 50 lbs
  • Must have the ability to push/pull hand truck/dolly loaded with up to 100 lbs
  • Some travel required to branch campuses. (Kent & Enumclaw)
  • Some travel may be required to association and industry trade shows
  • Work schedule: Generally Monday through Thursday 10AM-6:30PM, Friday 8:30AM-5PM Some schedule flexing will be required
