STARTING SALARY RANGE
: $49,046.99 - $63,995.20 commensurate with the agreement between the MCCS Trustees and the MEA Administrators Unit Level IV pending classification.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Reporting to the Dean of Academic Excellence & Strategic Initiatives, the Director of Career Development & Partnerships is responsible for helping students take an active role in career exploration and career advancement throughout their time at Southern Maine Community College. This work begins during the onboarding process, particularly through content contributions in First-Year Experience course, and it continues until students graduate from SMCC and/or enter their desired career field. This position is also responsible for maintaining existing relationships and forging new partnerships with industries and companies to ensure that students have a clear pathway towards achieving their career goals. In building upon these partnerships, the Director is responsible for organizing and delivering pathway-specific career fairs; this requires strategic partnerships in order to work more closely with industry partners to identify tangible talent pipelines in each pathway. Such partnerships would allow for jointly held events in which companies talent departments can co-lead industry-specific hiring workshops to best prepare SMCC students for an entire hiring process. Finally, this position is responsible for maintaining, updating, and troubleshooting the Colleges job board and all of its postings.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
 Bachelors Degree in Career Development, Higher Education, Counseling, or related field. Three years experience in counseling or academic advising in a post-secondary environment, public speaking, and event programming.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
 Masters Degree in Career Development, Higher Education,
Counseling, or related field. Five years experience in post-secondary career development education
or support. Experience managing staff and work-study students. Demonstrated experience in
networking and/or collaboration in various industries.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Knowledge of local and regional employment trends and career markets Experience in career counseling and familiarity with current career assessments and best practices
  • Experience in post-secondary academic advising
  • Understanding of apprenticeship programs and stackable credentials
  • Ability to promote all programs, including academic and workforce development, in each pathway
  • Understanding of Bureau of Labor Statistics and Maine Department of Labor Data
  • Maintain career search/exploration products, career websites, and Student Information Systems
  • Strong prioritization, communication, presentation, and problem-solving skills; strong listening skills
  • Ability to be a self-starter; confident in working independently or on a larger team.
