Primary Purpose
The position will have primary responsibility for early assist referrals and student concerns for on-campus housing students, and will assist the Director in concerns and conduct campus wide. Develops training and education related to student behavior and student support issues. Partners closely with supervisor and staff in determining an effective response consistent with appropriate laws and College policies. This position will also serve as the Colleges Deputy Title IX Coordinator.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Student Care Responsibilities
    • Provide programming and outreach to residence hall students to support their overall well-being, respond to concerns shared by families or employees, refers to campus supports, and ensures connections to basic needs services.
    • Make individual connections with residence hall students to encourage, support, and mentor them with any challenges or transitions to higher education. Assists students with problem solving, dealing with barriers related to attending and succeeding in school, and clarifying procedures and options available in response to student behaviors.
    • Provide outreach and student success resources to residence hall students through the Early Assist (early alert) referral program.
    • Provide support and advocacy for students while emphasizing individual accountability and responsibility.
    • Serve as lead for student housing related suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention processes.

 


Conduct Responsibilities
  • Serve as primary coordinator for student conduct process for most residence hall policy violations, including day-to-day, problem-solving, and decision-making.
  • As assigned by the Director of Student and Campus Life, conduct investigations of alleged policy violations including meeting with students and reviewing reports and information gathering from students, faculty, and staff to determine if violations of the COCC Student Rights and Responsibilities have occurred.
  • As assigned by the Director of Student and Campus Life, adjudicate conduct meetings for lower-level policy violations college wide. Implement and/or coordinate educational sanctions assigned to students.
  • Maintain and update students case-specific information, behavioral concerns, and other data in the web-based system.
  • As directed, assist in providing an appropriate and coordinated response from the College to student conduct emergencies.

Title IX Responsibilities
  • Serve as the Colleges Title IX Deputy Coordinator by providing expertise on requirements of and compliance with Title IX, VAWA, Campus SaVE and related federal and state laws, including annual disclosure and training requirements.
  • As assigned by the Title IX Coordinator, meet with individuals who report Title IX or related violations, providing coaching on COCCs process, including investigations, confidentiality, and support services.
  • As assigned by the Title IX Coordinator, coordinate the investigation process, including communication with reporting and responding parties, assignment of investigator and review of investigation report. Track all aspects of the report and investigation using COCCs incident reporting system.
  • Coordinate student and employee training regarding prevention of and response to sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating or domestic violence, and stalking,
  • Work with the Colleges Title IX Coordinator to maintain COCCs policy and procedures to ensure alignment with federal and state reporting, as well as the Colleges Title IX and Sexual Harassment web pages.

  • Maintains confidentiality of information related to student conduct concerns and exercises discretion to provide timely information and necessary updates across relevant stakeholders.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally, and in writing, using the English language.
  • Ability to effectively utilize common Microsoft applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) as well as the ability to learn and effectively utilize a student information system (Banner) as needed to perform essential responsibilities.

Ergonomic Requirements
Regular office hours are established between 8 am – 5 pm during the workweek. A flexible work schedule, including nights and weekends, may be necessary due to the nature of the responsibilities.
Incumbent must be able to function effectively indoors in an office environment engaged in work of primarily a sedentary nature. Requires the ability to work at a workstation for extended periods. Requires to write, read written materials and computer screens, and ability to use telephonic conversations. Occasional lifting up to 25lbs. All individuals are required to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Minimum Requirements
Education:
    • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university.

 

Experience:
  • Two years experience in housing / residence life or related student services experience.
  • One-year experience providing care or conduct support in a professional setting.

Preferred Qualifications
Education:
    • Masters degree in Student Affairs or related field.

 

Experience:
  • Experience administering a college student care or conduct process.
  • Experience with student information systems or conduct management software.
