NoJob Summary
Under general supervision the instructor will teach and facilitate student learning in a
competency-based welding program, preparing students for industrial employment.
Teach basic mathematical concepts and practical applications related to welding and
other industrial practices associated with welding.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
1. Provide instruction and facilitate students’ learning in:
Working with whole numbers (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division), using
calculator, common fractions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, combined
operations), using and reading measuring instruments (rule, tape measure, calipers,
micrometers etc.
Decimal fractions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, combined operations,
rounding numbers)
Tolerances
Equivalent measurements
Averages, percents and percentages
Metric system of measurements
English-Metric conversions
Combined Operations with equivalent units
Computing geometric measurements and shapes
Angular development and measurement
Calculating bends, stretch-outs, and economical layout
2. Accommodate various learning styles in the classroom
3. Advise students on the course requirements and their progress through the course.
Assess student’s abilities and provide appropriate documentation and feedback.
4. Provide an industry viewpoint to the training program so that students will be prepared
to enter the work force.
5. Support College and SAT policies and procedures.
6. Must have good work ethic, punctuality, and attendance habits.
7. Other duties as assigned.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued
1. Become familiar with, and abide by, all college policies with immediate priority given to those policies that govern interactions with colleagues, staff, administrators, and departments throughout the organization.
2. Maintain professional etiquette in communications with students, staff, faculty, and administrators.
3. Provides appropriate and timely feedback for all assignments.
4. Returns graded assignments in a timely fashion per department standards.
5. Maintains student attendance records (for Financial Aid purposes) and grades.
6. Conducts a variety of appropriate evaluations of student performance. Informs students of progress to date periodically and assigns and submits grades by published deadlines.
7. Assists in maintaining a safe and mutually respectful instructional environment.
8. Follows and abides by the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities Policy.
9. Handles/responds to student concerns/complaints and responds to student communications and inquiries promptly (generally within 1‐2 days).
10. Maintains professional appearance as defined by the discipline and/or College procedure.
11. Completes all required employee trainings.
12. Knows and enforces FERPA guidelines.
13. Administer ADA accommodations as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Preferred experience teaching in competency-based adult programs.
2. Preferred experience teaching students from diverse backgrounds.
3. Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
4. Ability to work without close supervision.
5. Ability to work within a prescribed curriculum and departmental procedures while
maintaining patience, creativity and cooperative attitude.
6. Basic computer literacy and use, including word processing, Internet, and email.
7. Ability/potential to use computerized/electronic classrooms.
8. Creative ability, able to devise real life scenarios for practical math applications in the
classroom.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Six (6) years full time paid, non-teaching industrial work experience OR
2. Associate Degree in welding related field with 3 years industrial layout experience OR
3. Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics with 2 years industrial layout experience.

Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, culture, ethnic background, and abilities, to maintain good working relationships across the College. The ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.
