Job Description

 

Georgia Military College in Milledgeville, Georgia, is now accepting applicants for an Assistant Professor in the following discipline: Psychology. The position will begin its teaching responsibilities in August 2024.

Applicant must hold a Masters Degree with 18 graduate semester hours or 30 quarter hours in the teaching discipline. Community College teaching experience is highly preferred. Applicant must be willing to teach day, evening, and/or weekend courses, as well as at various physical locations, remote and online.

This position is for an Assistant Professor or higher. Among the potential courses that could be taught would be a variety of introductory courses along with other 200-level courses. In the hiring process, those candidates who can also teach another discipline will be given preference. To view the list of courses as well as degree programs, please see the GMC Catalog. The hire will also serve as the Psychology Program Coordinator.

 


Major Responsibilities:

Each assignment will be for 20 quarter hours per term. The typical course is 5 quarter hours and may include day, evening, and Saturday classes. Additional responsibilities of Georgia Military College full-time faculty include maintaining regular office hours for student mentoring, curriculum review, and development, serving on College committees, and participating in various departmental and college activities

Minimum Requirements:

  • Masters in Psychology OR Masters in another discipline with 18 graduate semester hours/30 quarter hours in Psychology.
  • To be certified to teach a second discipline the candidate must have a Masters Degree or 18 graduate semester hours/30 quarter hours in the second discipline.

 


The successful candidates should demonstrate evidence of the following:

  • The ability to relate to diverse groups of people.
  • Strong commitment to teaching.
  • Working knowledge of learning styles and teaching techniques.
  • Recent teaching experience at the lower-division college level and the ability to fairly and effectively evaluate student performance.
  • Experience in the development and/or review of courses and curriculum.
  • Effective oral communication and writing ability.
  • Continued professional growth in the field.
  • Experience with, or willingness to explore, innovative teaching methodologies.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.
  • Experience and/or knowledge in working with students of great diversity in socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic background, including those with different levels of academic preparation and varying physical and learning abilities
