Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) announces an opportunity to work in the Child Development Center (CDC) as a Teacher Aide.

The CDC at Lake Tahoe Community College is a fully licensed childcare facility located on LTCCs campus. Licensed for 46 children aged 6 weeks through pre-kindergarten or 6 years, the CDC is a model facility for Early Childhood Education students.

APPLICATION PROCESS:
After review, suitable applicants will be invited by phone or email on or around Wednesday, March 27, 2024 to participate in an interview. Successful candidates will then be interviewed by a committee of approximately 3-5 individuals; these interviews are tentatively scheduled for April 4, 2024. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee an interview. LTCC reserves the right to return to the applicant pool at any point during the recruitment process.

COMPENSATION:
Salary Range: LTCC offers a competitive compensation package that includes a starting placement salary of $25,310 to $26,591 annually, dependent on education and experience. There is potential to reach $30,849 annually, through step advancement plus longevity when appropriate. In addition to base salary, this position qualifies for extra bilingual (Spanish), masters or doctorate pay.

Benefits: LTCC also matches 27% of an eligible employees salary and contributes it into a CalPERS pension account for qualifying employees.

Work-Life Balance: Hours are expected to be Monday-Friday, generally within the hours of 7:30 am to 6:30 pm, hours may vary according to the needs of the program. These positions are eligible for overtime compensation (non-exempt).

LTCC provides a generous leave package including 17 paid holidays per year plus 8 days vacation and 8 days sick leave per year.

Description

Definition:
Under the supervision of the Director of Child Development Programs and with guidance from the CDC Lead Teacher, the Teacher Aide will assist in the infant/toddler or preschool classrooms; assist with groups of children in their day-to-day activities and curricula; assist in the use and maintenance of equipment, materials, and the facility; make positive connections with staff, children, and their family members.

Representative Duties:
Assist in the incorporation of good health and safety standards for the children.

Assist children in learning self-help skills; provide for the physical care of the children, including but not limited to changing, diapering, feeding, and comforting as needed.

Assist in the preparation of snacks and meals, as needed; help maintain an orderly environment.

Assist the children and staff if an emergency occurs and be part of the emergency readiness team.

Assist in the maintenance of records and reports.

Assist Teachers in maintaining daily, weekly, and monthly charting related to attendance, food service, napping, toileting, ouch reports, or upon teacher requests for related areas.

Assist in supervising areas during nap periods.

Inform the supervisor when materials and nutrition supplies are needed.

Attend and participate in staff and parent meetings.

Attend and actively participate in special events and professional development opportunities.

Work as a team member to assist teachers and other staff in providing developmentally-appropriate activities for assigned children.

Maintain scheduled work hours; assist in preparing teachers weekly lesson plans and activities to support a stimulating environment for children.

Maintain a clean and orderly physical environment conducive to the optimal growth and development of children.

Regularly communicate with parents and staff members in a positive and supportive manner.

Other Duties:
Perform related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

Education and Experience
Any combination equivalent to: Formal or informal education or training in basic childcare that ensures the ability to perform the functions necessary for successful job performance.

Knowledge of:
  • Materials and equipment suitable for young children.

Ability to:
  • Perform duties in a professional manner.
  • Work with a Teacher and assist in operations.
  • Assist Teachers in maintaining daily, weekly, and monthly charting related to attendance, food service, napping, toileting, ouch reports, or upon teacher request for related areas.
  • Relate effectively to parents, staff, and children.
  • Perform with courtesy and tact in a variety of public contacts both in-person and on the telephone.
  • Work confidentially with discretion.
  • Safely lift 40 pounds..

Additional Requirement (Licensure/Certification):
  • Pass the required health screening and maintain required health standards and immunizations.
  • Receive criminal background clearance through Department of Justice and FBI for Community Care Licensing, Department of Social Services Requirements.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certificates issued by an authorized agency preferred.

Working Environment:
  • Indoor/outdoor childcare environment.
  • Constant interruptions.
