Summary
Under the direction of the Dean of Student Services, this position provides leadership, supervision, and coordination of the Districts on-campus student housing. Ensures that facilities are maintained, safe, and provide access to a diverse student population. The Residence Hall Manager will oversee the everyday operations of the Residence Hall and will supervise residential advisors. They will be responsible for student life and activities programming for student dorm residents.

Education and Experience
Requires an AA degree, excellent interpersonal skills, counseling skills, and demonstrated organizational skills, and at least six years of responsible experience working with young adults, preferably in student housing; Preferred qualifications include completion of a BA degree program and two years experience working with young adults, preferably in student housing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Operations:
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the residence hall, including maintaining occupancy/roster of residents and key control/inventory.
  • Develops and administers residence policies and procedures.
  • Maintain administrative and informational records.  Process student account charges for private and public area damages.
  • Complete Behavior and Safety Plans, emergency contact notifications, and Student Expectations Meetings as appropriate.
  • Serve on an on-call duty. Respond to additional emergencies as necessary. Supervise 24-hour coverage of area.
  • Coordinate emergency procedures with Director of Facilities, i.e., power outage, fire drills, medical emergencies, bomb threats, etc. Educate residents about emergency procedures.
  • Maintain appropriate communication with the Director of Facilities regarding building needs and preventative maintenance projects. Submit work orders for facility needs to the Facilities Department. Actively monitor, respond, and report on building issues, including maintenance requests and safety issues.
  • Maintain positive working relationship with facilities personnel.
  • Monitor all public area facilities and conduct routine room searches to ensure Residence Hall Policies and Procedures are being followed.
  • Coordinate and supervise proper usage of residential kitchen and public spaces when used for programs and activities.
  • Plans and coordinates fixture and furnishings replacement and repair schedules with the Director of Facilities.

 

 
Campus Housing Student Activities:
  • Establish a strong, positive learning environment within residential areas and the LCC community. Foster a positive residential living environment with student experience at the forefront of all efforts. Encourage maximum participation of residents in Club and Intramural Activities.
  • Provide leadership in creating a community that supports students of underrepresented and diverse populations.
  • Serve as a partner in the students total development by working with: Admissions & Records, ASB, Athletic Department, Student Resource Center, Behavioral Health, Career & Transfer Center, Counseling, DSPS, EOPS, Financial Aid, Student Accounts, and other offices.
  • Utilize LCC Portal “Residence Hall” communication channel weekly to share campus and community events and other important information with residents.  Plan and execute events designed to help residents socially and academically and to foster community within the student housing. Initiates, supervises, and coordinates campus housing program student activities.
  • Monitors student conduct, maintaining order, enforcing rules and regulations established for maintaining safety and security. Advises students on appropriate conduct. Handle and evaluate investigations and disciplinary processes related to student conduct.
  • Assists residents in their adjustment to roommate and community living.
  • Works to be cognizant of the special needs and concerns of minority students and initiate programming and other efforts in the halls to address these needs and concerns.
  • Conducts education for, and serves as an advocate supporting Title IX, prevention of sexual misconduct, and affirmative consent. Conducts education on student rights and responsibilities. May serve on the Districts Title IX team.
  • Attend meetings, including but not limited to: department meetings, staff meetings, committee meetings, and one-on-one meetings.
  • Receives, reviews, and approves residence hall applications and fee payment contracts.
  • Ensures proper handling and storage of student and business records. Maintain administrative and informational records.
  • Contribute to recruitment and retention programs and initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with the CSSO & Dean of Student Services regarding all Student Disciplinary Procedures.
  • Refer all mental health concerns to appropriate resources and maintain thorough documentation.
  • Complete program review
  • Recruit, select, train and evaluate Resident Assistants and monitor work performance for accuracy and completeness in accordance with department and Institutional goals and objectives.
  • Coordinate training for Resident Advisors including but not limited to conflict resolution, community building, mental wellness referrals.
  • Provide Resident Advisors guidance about LCC policies and procedures and conduct monthly meetings that include ongoing trainings and resource information. Hold Resident Advisors accountable for meeting performance expectations, including responsibilities outlined in the Resident Advisor Handbook.
  • Perform other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.

Physical Demands
Requires the ability to move to varying locations. Requires ambulatory ability to operate a personal computer keyboard and audio-visual presentation equipment. Requires visual acuity to drive a car and to read words and numbers. Requires auditory ability to carry on conversations in person and by telephone and speak to small groups. Requires ability to lift light to heavy objects on an occasional basis (10-50 lbs), and to push or pull lightweight objects.
