Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs skilled journeyman-level locksmith work in the installation, adjustment, maintenance, repair, and replacement of all types of locks, keys, electric access control devices and other types of locking and door hardware.


  • Fabricate and record all keys and locks to all College properties using an existing five level keying system.
  • Install and repair doors and door hardware including locking systems with12-volt and 24-volt electrical access and exit control systems.
  • Maintenance and repair of safes and safe locking systems.
  • Install, program, troubleshoot and maintain interior and exterior hardwired and remote access handicap door operators.
  • Coordinate with Campus police and Facilities management to expedite requests for new keys, new lock, lock modification, re-keying or changing locks to all college facilities.
  • Maintain computerized key/lock system data base and lock shop spreadsheets.
  • Manage inventory control of supplies/materials within budgetary limits.
  • Research and recommend appropriate lock systems for all sizes of projects and assignments.
  • Daily creation and completion of computerized work order requests.
  • Change, maintain, and record specialty coded locks when necessary.
  • Coordinate external Locksmiths and other contractors to complete locksmith projects and work.
  • Assist in the annual preparation of Locksmith's budget.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Education
    • High School diploma required. Two-year Trade or Associate degree preferred.
    • Illinois Locksmith License required within one year of hire.
    • ALOA Certification preferred.
  • Experience
    • 5 years locksmith or directly related work experience required.
    • Must have a valid Illinois Drivers License.
    • Proficiency in English written and oral communication skills required.
    • Strong computer skills and knowledge in low voltage locking systems required.
    • Previous Facilities management experience at a large multi building campus is a plus.
  • COD Training
    • Hazardous Communications Arc Flash


Working Conditions:
  • Power tools, electrical meters, personal computer, ladders, hand tools, college vehicles, radio, and key cutter.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, use power tools and work outdoors in any weather.
  • Required uniforms supplied by the College of DuPage.
  • This position requires a background check, physical and drug screen.

Hybrid Remote Eligible: No

Hiring Range:
Classified 11 Hourly/25.00 - 30.00
