Position Summary

Purpose
The primary purpose of the Job for Michigans Graduates (JMG) OOS Specialist is to assist participants ages sixteen through twenty-four that have stopped-out of school prior to attaining a high school diploma or GED or have obtained their high school diploma or GED. Who are aging out of Foster Care, Homeless, and currently or previously system involved obtain a high school diploma or GED, enroll in a postsecondary institution, short-term training, employment or the military.

Scope
The JMG position is in the division of Workforce & Economic Development (WED) but specifically reports to the Director of Youth Services. This person will be responsible for assisting with the implementation of processes and systems utilized in the daily operation of JMG.

Dimension
Given the nature of the JMG, this position functions independently most of the time and is expected to exercise good judgment on issues, questions, and problems that arise. The incumbent must be able to manage to work in a fast-paced environment during registration periods, and reporting cycles, and must be able to handle multiple priorities. This position is part of a team that must be able to work together with other areas to ensure that the program, department, division, and college fulfills its annual goals.


Supervisory Responsibility:
The person in this position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but may serve as a formal work group leader for assigned staff and students.


Minimum Requirements

1. Associate Degree in social service, counseling, business, education, a related discipline or equivalent experience.
2. Experience working in both the private sector, education or social services.
3. Skills in human relations, leadership, and motivational techniques.
4. Ability to establish appropriate boundaries while developing and nurturing supportive
relationships with participants.
5. Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with strong oral and written
communication skills.
6. Must possess good organizational skills and be able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
7.Familiarity with computer software (Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Zoom, Email etc.), data tracking and alternative instructional methods.


Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

  1. Must be able to work at a desk for long periods of time and operate a computer workstation and telephone.
  2. Must be able to communicate both in person and over the telephone with a variety of people each day.
  3. Occasionally carries and moves light loads up to (25 lbs.)

Work Schedule

Full-time; In addition to regular business hours, the person in this position must be able to be flexible around the needs of the department, which includes evening and/or weekend hours. Significant travel both local and out of state for conferences, meetings, and workshops.
