Description

The Access to Achievement Advisor position is a full-time, 12-month grant-funded position located at The Carrington Scott Main Campus or Dillingham Center. Under the direction of the ABE/HSE Coordinator, the Access to Achievement Coordinator will be responsible for assisting adult learners with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities (IDD), specifically working with the ABLE and Career College programs. This position will work to increase access to academic, digital, and employment skills across the college and will help students transition to workforce development pathways and/or post-secondary academic and training opportunities.

Example of Duties

  • Be the primary contact for students who self-report/disclose an IDD diagnosis
  • Interview student and/or parents to establish interests and goals
  • Present options based on student interests using written materials, tours, or meetings with program/department heads. These options might include CCR programs, Continuing Education programs, and/or Curriculum programs. Position would assist with development of career pathways as needed.
  • Develop person-centered plan and complete required documentation of plan
  • Guide student in application process, if necessary, and refer to enrollment manager/student services
  • Refer to other services as determined appropriate (Career Counselor, Disabilities Coordinator, Human Resources Development, Tutoring, Mental Health Services)
  • Schedule bi-weekly or monthly follow-up and check-in with student for entirety of students enrollment in college courses
  • Follow-up with instructors on a regular basis regarding student progress
  • Inform students of campus events, opportunities, and activities providing a personal invitation to students to participate in these activities.
  • Conduct local marketing and outreach responsibilities as determined by local college (area school districts, employers, community agencies)
  • Manage recruitment of students
  • Track student outcomes as determined by required reporting to NCCCS and other outcomes as determined locally
  • Create and submit reports to the NCCCS biannually
  • Partner students with peer mentors, if desired by student and/or parent
  • Continue to track and follow-up with students for six months after separation from college services/programs
  • Liaison with workforce development staff, community agencies, and local employers to assist in pursuit of employment for students
  • Advocate for inclusion of students in all aspects of college and campus life
  • Organize and coordinate implementation of team efforts
  • Participate in all professional development and other meetings as required by NCCCS

Typical Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • Ability to work with a diverse population of adults, specifically those with IDD
  • Excellent advising, follow up, and organizational skills
  • Experience using Google Suites and other necessary software

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree, certificate, or experience working with students with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities
  • Experience with adult learning frameworks
  • Experience working with local employers to establish business relationships for student internships

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $44,909.00 - $65,544.00 per year
