Primary Purpose:

Responsible for the strategy, coordination, and execution of all aspects of Climate Adaptation policy and data analytics, ensuring Regulatory compliance, in close coordination with key stakeholders and business units across SDG&E. Develop data requirements, facilitate climate adaptation planning, track project deliverables, provide external presentations and panel briefings. The primary area of focus is climate change adaptation planning, policy and analytics advancement, which includes wildfire mitigation program support, cross departmental coordination, community collaboration, and climate change impact analysis including integration of climate science, development and interpretation of climate vulnerability assessment models. The Climate Adaptation Advisor will serve as resident subject matter expert on the application of climate science across all areas of our business.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Analytic support on wildfire mitigation, community resilience, and climate adaptation deliverables in close collaboration with project managers, management, and leadership. Initiate relevant communications, plan development, contract revisions with supply management, and project status updates with respect to the approved budget. Independently exercises critical decision making with regard to project activities with significant company impact and climate change risk mitigation.
  • Climate Policy and Analytic Model(s) execution responsibilities include communication plan execution, vendor coordination, training, and occasional stakeholder outreach, engagement and education related field work.
  • Project governance responsibilities include coordinating requirement gathering, invoice processing, dispute resolution, and project/initiative documentation.
  • Position will act as a subject matter expert in climate change adaptation and will be expected to present at various internal and external meetings, including after-hours events. Participate in staffing outreach events; support seminars, education and training as needed. Serve as liaison between SDG&E's sustainability team to ensure broader organizational alignment.
  • Respond to and support after hours incident response activities in person or remotely, whichever the incident requires. Maintain active status as an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) responder for any incident involving adverse weather conditions or wildfires.
  • Perform other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).

Hybrid Schedule:

  • Although the schedule may vary, typically this will allow the employee to work onsite three days per week and remotely on the remaining workdays.
  • Must reside in Southern California or be willing to relocate upon hire.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Climate Adaptation, Atmospheric Sciences, Project Management, Business, Communications or equivalent experience. Preferred degree focus in Climate System Science, Climate Risk, Econometrics, Quantitative Finance, Atmospheric & Oceanic Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, or Physics.
  • 3 years related experience in climate analysis, atmospheric sciences, project management, energy management, business management, or program specific work.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Proactive, flexible, and attentive to detail in collaborating with others, dealing with issues, and prioritizing workload.
  • Successful track record in meeting aggressive project deadlines in a highly stressful environment.
  • Self-starter and ability to independently exercise critical thinking while weighing company risk.
  • Ability to work effectively individually or in a team environment.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Climate System Science, Climate Risk, Econometrics, Atmospheric & Oceanic Sciences, Environmental Sciences or Physics.
  • Related experience in climate risk analysis, environmental engineering, community engagement, energy policy support, or climate adaptation planning.
  • Formal education or equivalent work experience in climate policy and impact analyses.
  • Familiar with project management and coordination principles, procedures, and concepts.

Other Qualifications:

  • Occasional travel may be required.
